This is very surprising…..half the returning team (all positions) are movin on. I can’t believe that these particular players are attracting too much NIL money: none of them were overly impressive. Interesting to see if there are any portal players ready to announce they are coming to Cal!!

Yes, this one worries me. The only optimistic scenario is that Madsen really believes these guys are not worth keeping based on what he believes he'll get coming in. Otherwise, we either lack the NIL money to keep them, or the players aren't happy at Cal. Since the players gush all over the place about loving the coaches, it's hard to believe it is that. So maybe it is money? Maybe it is the coaches saying they should look elsewhere? Lots of questions.

How about the prospect of a ridiculous amount of airplane travel for ACC conference participation? I imagine there are places to transfer where that won’t be part of the package. I’ve been harping on this issue (i.e. that it could seriously hinder recruiting and retention) and have received numerous rebuttals by others here on this board once the possibility of us getting into the ACC emerged, I know. But, maybe my worst fears are coming true. I hope not. I hope instead that the idea of playing in a conference with Duke and North Carolina will be a draw. I noticed, by the way, one of the teams in the NCAA tourney, Utah State, is made entirely of players who weren’t on the Aggies’ roster last year. So maybe there’s still some potential to contend. But, right now the mass defections are demoralizing.

We need more freshman and sophomores on this team, not less of them.

OK. So what exactly is going on here?

I can't say that I was blown away by his play but he was, of course, a freshman. Development is the point. I'm not sure what he's looking for but Madsen seems like he'd be a decent one for that.

I guess we have to cobble another team together. Just add that to the pile of changes.
