I remember feeling very strongly about where we ranked early in the season, and feeling super justified when we went 5-0 and ranked No. 15, only to watch the season collapse.

Nice to get votes; don't care that we're not ranked until we start racking up more wins. Onto ACC play!

…and then there’s the Mack Brown shenanigans.

They are off to a great start. Last night was an ugly win but a win . Do not worry about the rankings . Keep winning. Much improved with the portal and we have a chancellor doing cheers during the game.

The school understands how important football is to supporting all sports and the university! It’s been awhile since we have had that . You can be one of the best academic colleges in the world and support sports . Go Bears!

Rankings don’t mean a lot at this point. Just keep winning. Regarding this statement in the post “But Auburn did not play very well against Cal…”; perhaps they didn’t play well because of Cal’s play.

I think, realistically, 2-2 over the next 4 would be fine. If we're 5-2 heading into 5 straight games where I'd favor us, then we should have a chance at having a relative step change improvement in the program.

I think if we beat FSU and somehow upset Miami we end up ranked 15-20

We did decently well against Cam Ward last year expect the same this year. Miami is not going to like traveling 3,000 miles against us, plus Nando from Miami is the X Factor. 🐻

But Cam Ward has an even better cast around him, but let’s not worry about Miami now. Cal needs to focus on FSU.

F * U * K the rankings. Just keep WINNING

I prefer the team play hungry, with a chip on their shoulder. (Don't get no respect). Otherwise, they start flat.

We already started flat yesterday and against Davis.

It's such an unfortunate situation. Losing to Seminoles on the road should not hurt us, but since they are 0-3, losing to them would make us look really bad.

Seminoles have mucho talent. Maybe similar to the talent advantage Cal had over SDSU. If the Bears clean up their game, come out on fire, and protect the rock they can win.

Messing around allowing a bunch of sacks and gaining no yards on 3rd/4th and really short will spell doooomm.

FSU is indeed 0-3, but a few tweaks, to get that machine humming will spell trouble for future opponents aka The Golden Bears!

We can do it but not with the game we brought to the first half vs SDSU.

And do we really think that the ACC will want to see FSU lose? Cal may have to take matters into their hands and win convincingly. I can’t see them winning a close game. It will be too easy for the powers that be to give FSU the benefit of doubt when it matters the most. Cal will need to make any benefits given to FSU to be moot. This is indeed a tall order but this is how the Bears will have to play the game. No quarter expected, no quarter given.

Given FSU's litigation against the ACC and clamoring to leave the conference, maybe the ACC officials won't want to do FSU any favors.

I am sure the refs down there prefer Southern cooking and the waffle house. Not the quiche eating Chardonnay drinking left coasters. Expect no favors from them and watch out for phantom PI calls, targeting-that-wasnt and more shenanigans that could cost us the game if it is a close struggle in the 4th Q.

Rat poison.

I’m glad JW doesn’t roll up points.

Keeps us off the radar.

More surprised that ESPN Analytics gives 3-0 Cal a 40% win probability vs 0-3 FSU. Hopefully that provides the team and coaches with some additional motivation !

40% is better than anything we had before the season started.

I actually think it’s a good thing that we’re not ranked as of now. Not because we’re doing bad… I believe cal football is returning to its days very quickly and steadily but we can’t lose our focus and what’s in front of us. Being ranked can cause to loose focus and put immense pressure too. So I think once we settle in more and hopefully go 4-0 or even 5-0 then being ranked would be a good way to go. We’ve still got something to prove and to show. Cal football is a sleeper team this year. The fact that we don’t even have most of our healthy starters playing and we’re 3-0 says so much of our this year team and the skys the limit for them. Can’t wait to see all of our starters healthy and playing. Best defensive team I’ve seen from Wilcox and props to him. #go bears #undefeated

- I'd mentally prepare for that to never happen.

"..or even 5-0":

- Bless your heart. Pump that sunshine!

Yeah. I saw both Merriweather and Grayes hobbling around on crutches at the game.

At this point I'd say Ott may not play much this season. Probably in his best interest to preserve his health for the NFL. Not sure what will happen when guys gifted NIL monies don't play but there it is.
