Cal lands Idaho transfer defensive back Marcus Harris
The California Golden Bears got a crucial defensive back commit through the portal.
The Bears continue their hot streak in the transfer portal. Cal landed the commitment of Idaho cornerback Marcus Harris to help rebuild the newest version of the Takers.
Harris earned first-team Big Sky plaudits. The Portland native recorded three interceptions, one defensive TD, 13 pass breakups and 51 tackles (5.5 TFL) in 2023. He also broke up 36 passes, most recorded in Idaho history.
Harris was a starter at Idaho for the last three years after transferring in from Oregon State. He registered 154 tackles (nine TFL) and picked off six passes during his Idaho career, grabbing two pick sixes. Harris has one year of eligibility left, according to his portal post.
Cal’s pass defense saw significant regression in 2023. Even though the defensive back play was solid on its own, there is definite upgrading that could be had in one-on-one coverage play.
Welcome to Cal Marcus! Go Bears!
I wonder if OOC games make it more
likely for someone to transfer. First Chandler Rogers from UNT, now Harris from Idaho.
Good pickup but will be wasted if we don’t get a new DB coach and DC.
