Cal Holds Off Boston College with Last-Minute Interception
The Golden Bears hang on in Chestnut Hill, Mass., to earn their first win in ACC play
Luke Ferrelli’s clutch play in his own end zone lifted the California Golden Bears (4-1, 1-0 ACC) to a 28-24 win at Boston College (1-3, 0-2 ACC) Saturday night.
Boston College drove nearly the entire field, down 24-28, poised for a last-minute, game-winning touchdown. Instead, California inside linebacker Ferrelli intercepted a pass on second and goal from his own 5 with less than 20 seconds left in the game.
California took the lead late in the fourth quarter when first-year quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele found tight end Mason Mini for a 51-yard touchdown, just before Boston College’s final, fateful drive.
Sagapolutele completed 22 out of 34 attempted passes, throwing for 254 yards, two touchdowns and one interception against the Eagles. The California signal-caller’s interception came on his first throw of the game, which Boston College converted into a touchdown only two plays later to bring the home team’s lead to 14-0 early in the first quarter.
The win, the Golden Bears’ first in conference play this season, was much-needed for California, which was blanked 0-34 last week by the two-score underdog San Diego State Aztecs.
I spent huge chunks of this game taking the Lord’s name in vain.

Flew out to Boston for this one and this will be up there for all time favorite Cal wins. Wow, what a f-ing rollercoaster. Great turn out by Cal fans—sang the drinking song twice, so far. Go bears!!
