Cal DB Chigozie Anusiem announces he has entered the transfer portal
After four years in Bear Territory, Chigozie Anusiem has decided to move on.
Defensive back Chigozie Anusiem has announced on Twitter that he will be entering the transfer portal.
Chiggy’s first year here was 2018; though he redshirted, he played in the North Carolina and BYU games. In the 2019 and 2020 seasons, he became a valued contributor and played in 16 of the 17 games during that stretch (missing only the 2019 Ole Miss game).
This past season, he started three games and played in four more; according to his CalBears bio, he has not played since the Colorado game (Oct 23) and has expressed that he just wants to play.
We wish Chigozie all the best in his future career and thank him for his hard work and contributions to the program.
11/30/21 update: number of folks in transfer portal (all are immediately eligible for transfer, either as grads or red shirt freshmen). Asterisks denote that their season (not including bowls) are not finished yet (ie, logically, one might expect guys to enter portal after their last game of season):

ASU: 4
Cal*: 1
CU: 6
Oregon*: 2
OSU: 3
Stanfurd: 3

The "I just want to play ball" tweet is from 2020. Written on the day the season opener vs Washington was canceled due to Covid. Had nothing at all to do with this season or his playing time.
