Cal defensive back Collin Gamble officially returns
The California Golden Bears get a welcome return from the transfer portal
After testing the waters in the transfer portal, Collin Gamble is back at Cal. The California Golden Bears defensive back has officially returned.
Gamble piled up 63 tackles in 2021-22, breaking up eight passes and logging an interception and a sack. He missed the 2023 season due to injury, and will be returning for his final season of eligibility.
Cal now has significant depth in their defensive back roster. Gamble is likely to return to the two-deep as either a nickelback or cornerback. He could compete with Matthew Littlejohn at the nickel, or Marcus Harris, Nohl Williams, Lu-Magia Hearns, Jasiah Wagoner at corner, and there are also other names like Ja'ir Smith, Marcus Scott II and Cam Sidney to consider. There are definitely going to have a deep rotation they can rely on for rotating in various permutations of standard, nickel and dime defensive packages.
It‘s important for the Bears to have depth at every position. A few injuries to Cal have caused them a lot of trouble in the past. It looks like they’re in good shape in their secondary.
