Since I'm an alum of Cal and FSU, I'm especially excited about the trip to Tallahassee. Just listened the primary FSU football podcast. They said Mendoza is garbage at quarterback, implied that Cal plays on a cute little field, and said Cal will absolutely fold when it experiences the humidity down south. They even had the audacity to say that FSU won't need all week to prepare for Cal, so they can use a day or two before the Cal game to get ready for their game with SMU the following week...
The arrogance and disrespect is absolutely palpable. I really hope we can surprise some people.
First game vs. Syracuse since we beat them 43-0 in '68 when they were the tenth ranked team in the nation (Cal was #11). A gentleman I know that used to attend games at Archbold Stadium towards the end of the Ben Schwarzwalder era noted that was the game that put a close to the period of them being considered a national power. The Bears had beaten UCLA the weekend before. Still my favorite Cal homestand ever.
I listened to both games in the garage at home. The 1967 at Syracuse one we lost 20-14 and if I recall that was the first time I had heard of Larry Csonka. I think, can find the stats, that he had an outstanding game and the Cal announcers were very impressed. The next one 68 at home, the blow out, I could not believe and was really hyped up.
I knew of Csonka from the year before when he was in the same backfield with Floyd Little. Didn't listen to the '67 game on the radio, but I do recall reading, undoubtedly in the Chronicle, that he had had a very good game.
I was at both those games. The Syracuse game ended with a pick six. That was when Cal had the Bear Minimum defense. Ray Willsey's one good year as coach.
As it was a game featuring the Nos. 10 and 11 teams, it was included in a national highlight program in which I got to see myself celebrating one of the Bear touchdowns in the front row just beyond the north end zone.
I like the schedule because home games are spread out. it's not like last season in which half our home games were played before the send of September and two-thirds by the first week of October. So weird not so see the LA schools, Oregon and UW.
Definitely going to Auburn. Considering Wake Forest so I can meet some folks in NC and plus it's another excuse to go to Asheville. Still debating FSU or Pitt though. I feel like I must do FSU because of the history and tradition.
I am fairly well versed snap recognizing team logos through most of the major CFB teams and certainly the PAC 12 without saying. A lot depends on the size of the logo viewed for teams, though familiar with, I'm not as fast on the uptake regarding their logos.

I hope nobody's getting comfy with this schedule.
Will JW suddenly have his teeth filed for a winning edge?
Or will he continue to pretend to the scholarly pose?
Hmmm....
Because Cal
Small quibble - it's 5 home games in the last 8 starting in October.
Not bad. Tallahassee will be a fun road trip - their reactions when we win by 10 will be priceless!

204 yards for Larry that day. I forgot how close of a score that was.

Like getting Syracuse in the 2nd half of the season after they do their usual 5-0 start then melt down for the rest of the year.

Yeah, this schedule is just plain weird for the departures you've noted.
It is exciting to play so many new teams.
A lot of that schedule is manageable enough to pump some sunshine. But if course, that's if the 2023 Cal Bears played. A lot of unknowns for 2024.
Go Aztecs! wait...Go Bears! I DON'T KNOW! help me.
ok, happy to help. The correct choice is, as always, "GO BEARS!!!"
Hopefully Cal will be a championship contender. There is a lot to like about the latter part of the schedule.
Was there any more update about when/how they would look for centralizing games to minimize travel impacts?
Good thought but it'll never happen. Schools won't give up their home games.
If the dissolution of the Pac-12 wasn't bad enough, now I have so many more new logos to learn.
We win the two bye weeks. A 10 win season would be dreamy. A better than 500 season would have me happy.

Me on first seeing the graphic: 'We play Stanford and Stanford...wait, that's Syracuse.'
nice to see Spring optimism appearing before the end of January
