Regardless of how you feel about this move and before you comment, respect that the Tolers are Cal family.

I'm torn about this. I played with his Dad, Burl Jr. The Toler family is just a great family and are Golden Bears through and through. Blll did a great job recruiting. I'm guessing Harsin is meeting with staff and making decisions about who to keep. We need a big change on the offensive side of the ball. More grit and more nasty. I wonder if we will lose any more kids to the Portal with this announcement?

Well, he got to play and coach at Cal. I think that's a really good legacy. You can't be a coach forever at one place. He might one day come back as an even better coach.

Totally. I think I read there have been three generations of Toler Cal grads.

Yes, Burl Toler Sr. was the first black NFL ref. Like I sad, great family, first class.

If we were to make a complete change of the team, which we really need to turn this team around, I really wish we could start all fresh starting with AD and HC. Might as well, right? One can only hope.

Great guy, great family, great football heritage (grand dad, Burl, was the best athlete on the epic USF Dons squad, nominated to the Shriner's game when it was pros vs. college players, while in Chicago getting ready for the game he mis-stepped off a curb and severely injured his leg which ended his pro career before it started, and as I recall became a respected NFL referee). Sad to see him go, but in all honesty he was a so-so TECHNICAL coach and so-so recruiting coordinator. Good luck to him in the future.

I guess Harsin will be overhauling the offensive staff?

Good. Wilcox needs to act with a sense of urgency.

It's a tough day for Cal fans. This is predictable. Still, it feels that the hits just keep coming. I don't even think that a lovable homer like Joe Starkey could put a good spin on the last 24 hours. How is the team supposed to have their heads into preparing for the LA Bowl?

I don't think the Bowl game will go well for us. Our starting QB gone, OC gone, O-Line Coach gone and WR Coach gone. I think Wilcox knows this and he is putting a staff together that will take advantage of the extra days of practice we get for a bowl game in order to install the Harsin system and evaluate the talent we have left. Probably going to try out a lot of inexperienced players. I would not be a bit surprised to see CJ Harris in the starting role since he has eligibility and Rogers is done. Now it's all about getting the players reps in the new system.

Was just talking to my kid about this: that you can declare portal and then abandon your team for the bowl game. All of the players are on some form of “contract,” whether it’s a scholarship or NIL. Seems like there should be a little bit of friction against this practice, no?

Do we know what UNLV’s staff is gonna look like? Odom still around?

Totally fair to fire him. But he's still Cal family forever except when he's standing on the opposing sideline.

He got some receivers from Ohio State and Notre Dame this year

That unfortunately made little to no impact. Bummer, such a bad break.

By that metric, who isn't a terrible recruiter on this staff then? Some of the only 4 star straight from high school guys we've had on the roster were Toler recruits. JMike, both Hunters, Mavin Anderson.

While I like Toler as a person, his coaching abilities were questionable. He never coached WRs to block.

I agree. Respect the legacy but his receivers usually underperformed and he was kept on for a long time.
