Cal Football adds another Offensive Lineman through the portal in Trevonte Sylvester
More talent on the line
Cal Football has not stopped its makeover of the offensive line, and this time, they’ve added OL Trevonte Sylvester through the portal. The 6’5” 285lbs tackle played in 12 games for the Cougars this past season as a redshirt freshman.
Sylvester played this past season at backup left tackle for 114 snaps. He did not allow a sack over 16 opportunities. His snap splits saw him play 72 snaps on field goal and PATs.
Interestingly he entered Houston as a TE only then to covert into OL.
Sylvester should be competing to start at a tackle spot as soon as he steps on to campus. He’ll battle with Nick Morrow, Brayden Rohme, Trent Ramsey, TJ Session, JC transfer Martin Tine, and fellow spring transfer Matthew Wykoff.
Welcome to Berkeley, Trevonte!
Go Bears! Been hoping for some news of this weekend and I'm guessing this young man was on a visit and pulled the trigger? I'm starting to feel much, much better about our depth and talent. With that stable of running backs, and our mobile QB, it could be a pretty special running team. Hope the young man adjusts to the Bay alright as it is certainly a change from Houston. Lots of Texas boys on the Bears, so he's not alone. Three years to play?
My imagination trends to think that each one these, say OL 'heavy duty' transfers = 0.75 of an additional win beyond, oh say a basement of 5.5 wins.
