Cal quarterback CJ Harris enters transfer portal
The California Golden Bears will have a nearly brand new quarterback room come 2025.
CJ Harris has decided to explore his options in the transfer portal. The Cal quarterback made his decision before the weekend. It was first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. Although the transfer portal window closed earlier this month, Harris was a graduate transfer and was free to explore new opportunities for himself.
All three of Cal’s top quarterbacks on the depth chart have now left the Golden Bears. Fernando Mendoza is at Indiana and Chandler Rogers is also reportedly in the portal. Harris was third on the depth chart, but got his opportunity to play at SMU when both Mendoza and Rogers were unavailable. Harris completed 19 of 31 passes for 184 yards at Cal while also rushing for 49 yards vs. SMU and UNLV in the LA Bowl.
Cal will now have a brand new quarterback room going into next season. Top Elite 11 prospect Jaron Kaewe Sagapolutele will be on campus shortly and competing in spring practice. EJ Caminong had a decent number of snaps during the LA Bowl. Dominic Ingrassia is also a junior college transfer from San Mateo. There are some rumors about Ohio State quarterback Devin Brown according to Matt Moreno of Rivals, but we will likely not have any confirmation until after Ohio State completes their national championship run tonight.
Cal fans, thoughts on the new quarterback room?
Portal doing portal things. If he already got his degree, there's not much else to do but congratulate him and wish him well.
The portal giveth and the portal taketh away! As I've commented before, the portal is absolute insanity!
