Cal has their 2024 quarterback commit in Seattle signal-caller EJ Caminong
Cal will have their first high school quarterback commit since Fernando Mendoza.
Cal has their 2024 quarterback. Meet EJ Caminong from Garfield High School in Seattle!
Here’s his official Twitter announcement.
I want to thank God, all of my family and friends, my teammates coaches, other mentors, and everyone else who’s played a part in my life up to this point. I am forever grateful, and your impact on my life has helped me to this point. Now, I’m announcing that I am now committed to the University of California Berkeley! #GOBEARS
Caminong originally committed to Washington before reopening his recruitment a few months ago. There’s been some buzz around fellow Washington QB commit Austin Mack reclassified to 2023 around the same time, likely giving him an inside edge on the job by the time Caminong comes to campus next season. So he looked for other opportunities, visited Cal multiple times including this weekend on his official, and saw enough of what he liked in Berkeley!
Standing at 6-2 and 195 pounds, Caminong is ranked as the 37th best quarterback in the 2024 class by 247 Composite and the eighth best prospect in the state of Washington. Offers for Caminong also include BYU, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Colorado and Washington State.
Below are his YouTube highlights from his junior campaign (Hudl link available here).
After pulling Fernando Mendoza at the last minute in 2022 and not landing a quarterback in the 2023 class and having to go to the portal to get Sam Jackson V from TCU and Ben Finley from NC State, Cal finally is making early proactive steps on the high school signal-caller scene.
And at this time, Cal’s quarterback battle could still be wide open into 2024. Who know what can happen?
Welcome to Cal EJ! GO BEARS!
Has a Filipino-American taken snaps at QB for Cal?
A good get. Accurate, but needs to work on his arm strength. Also, watch his back foot, he comes off of his plant and raises it into the air as he throws. A perfect student for someone like Jeff Telford. As he matures, and thru coaching, he'll get better. Cal SHOULD go after his wide receivers too, they seem to get open, are speedy, are elusive, and have good hands.
