Cal lands a commitment from defensive lineman Michael-Anthony Okwura
Cal now has hit five recruiting commits in the 2023 class.
Cal landed its fifth commitment of the 2023 recruiting class this weekend after Michael-Anthony Okwura took his visit and immediately made the call.
A small snippet from his commitment post above:
I am super excited to commit to Berkeley football and I thank Coach Wilcox and Browning for the opportunity. I am extremely thankful to my family for being there for me. I greatly appreciate the schools that offered me. However, this is where my life has led me. It’s a good day to be a Bear!!!
Here’s more information from Rivals on what went into his decision.
"I knew Cal was the place because of how consistent they were. They were always checking on my family and I, and it ultimately led to my family choosing them," he said. "The visit was great. Berkeley has a ton of great views. Great place to be!"
…
"They're a great education school, and I've also heard from many people that it's a very nice-looking campus and it's a great area with great opportunities and great activities you can do. I've also heard it's a great environment with great people over there,"
You can see in his junior Hudl tape how relentless his motor is, never giving up on the play and going quick, always eager to get into a combat position.
On Fridays in the fall, he’s a relentless and disruptive edge rusher. He’s got strong arm length that allows him to extend and disrupt a blocker’s attempt in controlling him at the line of scrimmage. He shows a good snap explosion once the ball is snapped and doesn’t stop his feet unless the whistle gets blown.
Here is a look at some of his clips from workouts with coaches and at camp.
Okwura holds offers from Howard and Sam Houston State. Don’t be surprised if more follow in the fall now that he has that Cal commit.
Welcome to Cal Michael-Anthony. Go Bears!
I know the 3-star ranking has some people sweating but if you look at 247, there are only about 50 DL recruits with 4 stars or higher. Seems like he has a good motor, strength, and "gets" Cal. This is a good pickup within our recruiting range and I welcome him!
Should be 2024 class?
