Unrelated to this great addition of Buchanan... I was super impressed by Justin Williams-Thomas in that last game he played against UCLA. With Ifanse done, I really hope they can keep him, Ott, and Cardwell in the RB room. Behind Bloesch's much improved OL, I could see Cal dominating in the run game next season.
Buchanan looks like an absolute stud! Top 6 ranked of all defenders in the 600-player portal! Look at his highlights. I like KEO but this looks like an upgrade to me.
KEO was athletic and a baller with high upside but has not been coached up yet. Buchanan has experience and all the other things. He's a solid addition to our defense.
Not to be mean to our former pac12 brothers.. but we should take serious looks at Wash St and Oregon St players as I imagine some of the more serious ones may have an eye elsewhere since the Pac2 is not going to make exposure nor have marquee games next year.
247 has Teddye as a 4-star ILB. Losing KEO hurts but does open up some space. Not as much info on Tobey. Looks like he plays multiple positions (with safety as his primary) and is being recruited as a DB. But there's a chance he can get moved around depending on size, attributes, and team need at his time of matriculation.
Either way, they seem like good guys, good students, and good athletes and I'm glad to have them join.
Great news! this is exactly what I had / have been hoping for from Day One. (1959, our last Rose Bowl appearance- in which Iowa creamed the Sons of California.
If our local athletes came to the pinnacle of academics and athletics in the State of California, Alabama-Clemson types would be but a slight obstacles on our way to the national championship.
Stay home boys and men while we make your home state a major player in NCAA Football and Basketball. We don't need the help in Water Polo. :)
See #27 made this - https://theathletic.com/5118850/2023/12/07/college-football-freshman-all-america-teams/. Great for him!

Love Nando but I'd also love it if we could pick up Cam Ward for 1 year....but he's prolly gonna get at least a cool mill $$ where ever he goes.
They offered Taylen Green from Boise.
Teddye is listed as a 4* college player in 247...he's one of the top linebackers in the portal. Hope KEO gets his $400k and truck.

I actually remember him from when UC Davis played Cal. Not too many of those guys stuck out in my mind.

Probably. It’s painful to say, but everyone is coming for those players.
I'm really optimistic for our Transfer Portal prospects this off season.
Pulled this up from Teddye. Definitely upgraded in transfer from options coming out of HS. Was wondering if Cal whiffed on him originally.
Buchanan had offers from Colorado State, San Diego, San Jose State, Sacramento State and UC Davis before he announced for the Aggies last weekend.

Thanks TD.
Great pickup. Go Bears!
