Following in the footsteps of the Oregon Ducks last year, the California Golden Bears will be debuting a new look this week on at least their helmets. You can see Chancellor Rich Lyons and quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele debuting the new looks. Take a look-see at the new Grateful Dead lids that will likely be on display this Saturday night against Wake Forest.
It appears Grateful Bears merchandise will eventually be available to buy in Berkeley this week. Be on the lookout for tie-dye shirts, hoodies, Grateful hats, and themed jackets sporting the Grateful look!
It does make you wonder—what will the full Cal football Grateful Dead look like come Saturday? Hopefully more surprises are in store!

I hope they are concussion proof.
SIIIIICK!
Never was a fan of the Dead or jam bands in general, but I respect their rightful place in the landscape and history of pop music, and especially as it relates to the Bay Area. These helmets and the whole campaign, however, are FIRE 🔥. I would love to hear some Dead tunes blasted on the Memorial system as well while the minitrons show boomers (maybe even some non-boomers) jam-dancing.
