“Five Star WR recruit flips from Texas A&M to Auburn—- Cameron Coleman is no.1 WR in 2024 class” (as reported by ABC). Hmmm. I wonder if he ever considered Cal? Maybe looked at our head coach and AD sitch?
Of course, he might not have the academic prowess to come to Cal, but wouldn’t it be fun to be in consideration for some of these guys every once in awhile?
Plus having players that need to make Cal's academic standards. I will keep referencing the fact that both Cal and Stanford should have not left for the ACC and stayed with Oregon State and Washington State in the PAC-12 .
They both now have somewhat merged with the MWC . I feel they will become in future years a Power 5 conference which Cal and Stanford could have been a big part of ...
How???? Where will they go???? The SEC will not expand any further. The Big 10 and Big 12 just added 4 schools each from our conference. I hope these conferences change their names next year..
I do not see them going back anytime soon. As I understand it they will be in the ACC at least 10 years. Because that is when they get a full share from the ACC..
Let the transfer portal begin. There will be 100's of players planning to leave their current schools. Yahoo Sports posted at least 15 different QB's the other day. Cal's problem will be any potential money needed for to draw players
Apparently Cal has made offers to a grad transfer ILB from UC Davis and another ILB from Middle Tennessee St. I wonder if Sergio Allen sticks around to try for the starting job again.
For many of these guys, it’s about the money. Period. Even an established, future first round draft pick RB has to consider taking a million dollars now via the transfer portal for his junior year vs. staying in a comfortable situation (without crazy gobs of $$$) and banking on not getting injured in his third college season.
Get ready for the biggest news of all when Ott decides to go as well. Not that I have any insight into it, but is it really in his best interest to stick around in a program that won't get visibility, or transfer to a Big-10 or SEC team and get national recognition before declaring for the NFL. I've already made my peace with it, as it's definitely going to happen.
My son has DM’d Jayden a handful of times over the past two years and he gets replies (which is kind of cool) but he DM’d him two days ago to say sometimes the effect of “Hope you stay but fully understand if you don’t” and Jayden replied with “really appreciate your support this year and last, brother” but nothing about staying. My son took it to mean he’s leaving. I didn’t read it that way but if the $ is there, we’re definitely at risk.
AND.....next year he'll get all the East Coast eyes on him that he'd want. The only silver lining of going to the ACC is the potential to mute the East Coast bias the Pac has suffered for so long.
2016 NFL draft disproves the underlying theory here. Maybe it does happen, but I don't see any point to being so certain/dogmatic that is is a forgone conclusion.
NFL scouts will have his Cal tape; the bit about "I need to play at a huge program so scouts see me on tape" isn't applicable in the modern era. Plus, he managed to be a top national rusher this year here and most of the OL is returning while Bloesch is either staying or getting a promotion to OC/OL.
If Ott wants the glory of playing at a title contender then he'll bolt, but he didn't do that last year after we went 4-8 and he surely could have landed at a top program instead. He's on the lower end of my worries as far as potential transfers go and the Cal NIL people should find a way to get him paid his due.
I certainly hope he stays to be sure! I just know how players like JJ Arrington and Patrick Laird put up massive numbers, but because he wasn't nationally-known didn't get drafted high and thus had no NFL career to speak of. Playing in the $EC, for better or worse, gets you that national exposure. Hopefully being in the ACC will elevate things, though!
Marshawn and Jahvid were both 1st round picks and Jaydn is much closer to their level than Patrick or even JJ. Cal had 11 1st round draft picks from 2000-2016 (our last first round pick), including #1 overall pick Jared Goff in 2016, so the idea that playing here would keep someone out of high-draft-pick potential just doesn't hold up.
JJ Arrington was a second round pick. Not a good example. Laird also had a better college career than Lasco and Muhammed but the latter two got drafted. It's not the exposure.
Or was probably poached by Tosh Lupoi. He's famous for that. Or maybe Harbaugh.
Sigh...Huge blow to our defense, losing KEO.
I wonder why Elarms-Orr transferred? He seemed like he was getting plenty of playing time and was an up and coming star. Oh well, next man up!
Come on people. It's all about NIL money. Some team or coach has offered him a lot of $$$

We were in consideration for them in the Tedford years, and landed a few 5* guys back then
Blake Antzoulatos also just entered the portal. LB depth being tested right now

We can come back when Clemson and FSU do to the ACC as $C and company have done to the PAC 12

They could come back to merge with WSU and OSU and play with the MWC and eventually become the a PAC 12 again.
I do not see them going back anytime soon. As I understand it they will be in the ACC at least 10 years. Because that is when they get a full share from the ACC..
They have their eyes in the SEC. Whether that happens or the NCAA grows a pair- TBD.

Allen would have to sit out a year if he transfers again, so he should stay for 2024
when players announce they are in the portal does that also mean they won't play in the bowl game?
That is my understanding but not positive about that.
This sucks. KEO and Uluave are our two best defenders for next year.

Just the way it is these days.
Guess College Football is more about the money than the education on many levels. Sad.
Orr no! Well, this sucks. Lets hope the tranfer portal giveth more than it taketh this year.
Good luck to all. Serious losses, but we should regard the grad transfers, at least, as unalloyed successes for the program.

Eh I doubt he'd tell a fan one way or another if he's staying. Don't read too much into it
And I’m now A SouthCarolinaBear, have to change my handle.
I'm curious how much NIL Ott is making here and how much more they can/will throw at him to get him to stay.
I think we sneakily have some decent NIL money here, relative to what most people expect/think. Though I dont know or understand much about it.
Marshawn is involved in Cal NIL. Gotta think he throws some love to the RB room.
Cal grads are high earners 🤷

Holding on to Cade is imperative.
