Cal football recruiting 2023 early visits from Marcus Ratcliffe, Hunter Clegg
Can the Bears lock up some of their early visitors to Berkeley?
Cal football recruiting is in full swing as the long lull between the 2022 season and 2023 spring football is underway. RJ Jones was Cal’s first commit of the cycle, but the Bears aren’t done trying to lock up major defensive talent.
Here are some of the latest updates on who has visited Berkeley, as well as who might be visiting soon.
Running back Roderick Robinson (Hudl tape) from San Diego (Ca.) Lincoln High figures to be one of the hottest recruiting battles in the West Coast. Cal was the first school to offer Robinson last summer, so they have had their eyes on him early. But they will have plenty of competition—seven other Pac-12 programs have extended offers, including Oregon, USC and Utah. Robinson has a soft spot for Cal.
Robinson is ranked as a top-25 national running back and top-30 California prospect by 247Sports Composite. At 6-1, 230 pounds, Robinson would be Cal’s most built high school running back prospect in quite some time.
Robinson is expected to take an unofficial visit to Berkeley this spring, likely for Cal Junior Day, and has set his commitment for August.
Defensive end Hunter Clegg (Hudl tape) from American Fork (Utah) paid a visit to campus recently. Clegg holds offers from half the Pac-12, including Oregon, USC, Stanford and Utah. Keith Heyward is his primary recruiter. Clegg is a top-five prospect out of the state of Utah and a top 25 edge-rusher.
More from Cal Rivals on his trip too Berkeley ($):
"It’s a beautiful campus. I really like it. I really like the coaches there, and I think it’d be a place where they could actually develop me pretty good."
Safety Marcus Ratcliffe (Hudl tape) from San Diego (Ca.) Cathedral Catholic trekked up north to Berkeley, and had this to say about the Bears.
Ratcliffe holds several offers from Power 5 schools like BYU, Cal, Colorado and Arizona. He is definitely an under-the-radar defensive back the Cal coaching staff has prioritized, particularly cornerbacks coach Terrence Brown and safeties coach Tre Watson.
RR II is a BEAST!!!! Would love to have him running up the middle!
