Still, all these comments are unproductively negative and effectively useless. I'd be a hypocrite to say that criticism of Cal and its football program shouldn't be on the board and I'm a fan of self-deprecating jokes, but I'm not really sure what the goal is of questioning commits at this point. Seems like someone needs to log off and take a breath.
I get it, but it's sad to see all the new recruiting announcements and everyone's just bitching about the transfer portal rather than being happy that people are choosing Cal.
it's sad but that just reflects the current reality of college football. not too long ago I used to get hyped over these announcements. the sport and traditions we've all known and loved is broken, and I think the frustration among fans like us is starting to boil over.
I do recognize that some of these recruits will browse for what people are saying about them so it becomes self defeating for us and unfortunate for them too, not seeing a fan base stoked about them. it's just really hard not to be jaded at this point, and there isn't really any other venue to vent. (for me personally, none of my friends or family are really into college sports so this is my only place)
Cal fans: Fantastic article in today's Athletic about Stanford Football and athletics in general. When you are reading, just think Cal everytime you see the word Stanford. Our predicaments are virtually identical. If you have access to the New York Times/Athletic website then you should definitely login and read. My favorite part of the article was the following quote: "Arrogance is prevalent across college athletics, but the level of arrogance at Stanford is unique,” said a former athletics administrator. “There were so many Stanford people who were like, how could she [NiJaree Canady who left Stanford for Texas Tech.} possibly leave for money?” Frankly, players should have been receiving money a long time ago but whether you like it or not, this is the new world that we are all going to have to live in. Like the 'Furd, Cal and its alums are going to have to step up if they want to be viable in athletics moving forward. Cal and the 'Furd have to become relevant enough to get an invite into the Big 10. Otherwise, we are both fucked.
We aren't the same, at least. Cal has embraced NIL and Lyons seems to be acknowledging we'll need to hit the $20M salary cap in upcoming seasons. Our problem is being cash-strapped and being unable to do a real, competitive coaching upgrade.
Stanford's problem is their unwillingness to acknowledge the current landscape of college football, and that terrifies me because we will need them if the two of us are going to make it.
Build the line with BIG humans! Good potential.
Coach Anae holds the keys.
In the new era of college football a 26' verbal commimwnt is like "OK, we'll see"
Hey, I just met you,
and NIL is crazy,
but here's my number,
so it’s a commitment, maybe?
Carly Rae Jepsen could have designed a better offensive game plan at Colorado in ‘22.
Same with Arizona in 21.
It means he's waiting for another school to up the offer.

I think there's no ill intention on any of these comments. Everyone is just having fun being pessimistic.

I can agree with that.
Welcome to Cal!!
These teenagers have us on a string, constantly toying with our emotions. How else are we to shield our fragile, Cal FB egos from being shattered?
Haha but would you rather have no one “commit” to the program?
Seems like a good kid and good addition to the program. If he wants to be an engineer, Cal's a great place to be.

Mrjpark: Good point. We are all in this together!
