Cal lands its second 2025 RB commit in Carter Jackson, joining Jojo Solis
The Bears now have two running backs set to start the post-Jaydn Ott era.
While the 2024 recruiting class is still going a bit slower than expected, Aristotle Thompson has things clicking for the Bears in 2025. Cal grabbed a second running back commitment in Folsom junior Carter Jackson today, joining JoJo Solis from San Bernardino, who committed late last year.
California Boy 🌊 God has a plan and it’s always perfect Thank you to the [Cal] Entire staff for believing in me I’m COMMITTED to the University of CALIFORNIA BERKELEY
Jackson is ranked the 38th best running back and 51st best California prospect in the 2025 class by 247Sports Composite. Jackson picked Cal over offers from Arizona, Utah, Syracuse, San Jose State and UNLV.
The 5-foot-9 prospect, who previously played at Granite Bay High School, rushed for 1,568 yards and 22 touchdowns as a sophomore. He had seven games last season with at least 100 yards on the ground.
Solis is ranked the 47th best athlete and the 54th best California prospect by 247Sports, committing to the Bears over Arizona State, Colorado and Washington State.
Here’s how Solis produced in high school so far:
MaxPreps lists stats for Solis for seven games this fall, as he rushed for 422 yards (6.6 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns while adding 17 catches for 235 yards and a score.
In 15 games as a freshman last year, Solis rushed for 2,088 yards (8.1 YPC) and 35 touchdowns while adding 24 receptions for 465 yards and 2 scores, per MaxPreps.
He describes himself as "a versatile back that can run downhill and make plays but also can catch out of the backfield and line up at receiver and make plays there as well."
Cal is likely to have a very new running back room by 2025 and definitely 2026. Jaydn Ott is on a path to the NFL draft after these next two seasons if all goes according to plan. Other Cal running backs who have entered through the portal like Byron Cardwell and Justin Williams-Thomas will still likely be contending to start then, but it should be a very open running back room.
Welcome to Cal Carter!

Again, Jim Knowlton made a huge mistake in not advising Justin Wilcox to take the Oregon job and then offering him a five-year extension. A 17-32 conference record doesn't usually warrant a five-year extension. Almost anyone should be able to do that. Wilcox at Oregon and Troy Taylor at Cal would have been a dream. Oh, well.
"Post-Jaydn Ott"?? I thought I missed something related to the transfer portal, but just looks like you're prepping for when he's playing on Sundays ;-)
