Them being PWO would help explain why I've read nothing about them anywhere. Not here. Not there. Not High. Not Low. Does being a PWO mean you are unranked, not even 1 star? Guys can have all the measurables, 6'4" and 210 and strong arms and be useless. Even ranked ones. Brock Mansion.
Who in the hell are those two guys? Follow this stuff nearly every day of my life and have never heard of either. Only Jackson and Mendoza to my knowledge. Bueller? Bueller?
Well between the two of us they clearly slipped in silently! I don't see how any players end up on Cal's roster that I don't read about. I watch every video and read every article. I know, it's a sickness. But somehow I have enough time and mental bandwidth left to be a functional human.
FWIW we only had 4 QBs on roster in 2017-18, then 5 QBs in 2019 and 6 QBs in 2020-22. All those years had better depth as far as HS bona fides went: after Jackson nobody was even a consensus 3 star. Now Mendoza looked pretty good in the practices I saw, and Jensen didn't have a senior season because of covid so his recruiting profile is 🤷 -- and both guys have good frames -- but we could still use at least one more guy. Someone with a 3* or 4* recruiting profile would put me more at ease.
"the monster's wild azz guess is that the player (unless ur a tv media communications major & don't know how to read books unless they be on a teleprompter or something) most likely to enter the portal when it reopens in may & then takes the california golden bears g-5 (no commercial flights) from westwood to berkeley is gonna be ucla quarterback justyn martin" -Shockey1
Absolutely, he could. But Sammy Jax will have a spring camp under his belt, and I just can’t help thinking that the transfer portal has made a lot of these kids afraid to compete: I mean, Kai Millner had better options than NAU…
I think Sammy Jax will be real good, but could see how you’d like to have a little more experience at the position. Any additions tho figure to be competing for QB2.
Overall I'm feeling good about this roster. Still worried as all heck about QB depth… Do we know if there's anyone else on our radar or is that just going to be a wait-and-see sort of thing?
Mentioned above but there’s gonna be another round of players transferring out after spring when they realize PT/depth scenarios. I assume we’ll be going after a QB then
I am relieved the most to see Brett Johnson still listed on the roster. Players with so many injuries, you never know when they will retire or transfer.
Also surprised to see 15 OL. Maybe we don't need to add so many via the portal.
7 tight ends?
1 fullback
4 guys at QB????
I saw that. mitcheom and Jensen are the new QB's. A depth chart of 4 QBs. What are y'all worried about?
There is another PWO QB:
"brady weingart, 6'3" 205 lbs, quarterback, redwood giants (transferred from the stinson beach dumb azz shockys)

Baker Mayfield went from a walk on to #1 overall NFL draft pick.
Preferred Walk Ons, unranked, but that means little, as you point out.

I’ve never heard of them either.
PWO’s from years past maybe? Jensen is huge - 6’6”…per 247sports he enrolled at Louisville fall of ‘21.
Highlights show a big man that’s not incredibly athletic but can sling it from the pocket.
Hopefully Jensen is our Purdy, and not the real Mr. Irrelevant
At 6’6”, Jensen may be two Purdy’s!!
6'6" that's huge! That's Brock Mansion size!

How about Justyn Martin?

Here's an opinion/guess I found:
"the monster's wild azz guess is that the player (unless ur a tv media communications major & don't know how to read books unless they be on a teleprompter or something) most likely to enter the portal when it reopens in may & then takes the california golden bears g-5 (no commercial flights) from westwood to berkeley is gonna be ucla quarterback justyn martin" -Shockey1
Would love it…but not seeing it now that Sammy Jax the Fifth is in town with 2 of eligibility…unless he’s graduating early.
The NCAA is gonna ratchet up the transfer rules, meaning you’ll likely get the Jack Plummer treatment (1 free transfer, then a Grad Transfer).
Martyn needs to hit a home run if he wants to get drafted and transfers after his SO year, and that means immediate PT…Cal likely won’t offer that.
Still, he could come and beat out Jackson Five.
Absolutely, he could. But Sammy Jax will have a spring camp under his belt, and I just can’t help thinking that the transfer portal has made a lot of these kids afraid to compete: I mean, Kai Millner had better options than NAU…
Assume most of the concern stems from the fact that none of them have taken a meaningful snap in a collegiate game.
True enough.
I think Sammy Jax will be real good, but could see how you’d like to have a little more experience at the position. Any additions tho figure to be competing for QB2.
Can we get another QB so we don’t get 49ered
A guru on Bear Insider is betting we get Justyn Martin next Spring.
If we have 3 deep QBs playing at a high level one after another, I wouldn't mind getting 49ered.
49ers made it well into the post season, so why not us?
Expect them to go after one after spring ball. There’s gonna be another round of transfers then.
Overall I'm feeling good about this roster. Still worried as all heck about QB depth… Do we know if there's anyone else on our radar or is that just going to be a wait-and-see sort of thing?

The gods hath answered our prayers.

It's a wait and see for now. Definitely going to need more in my opinion just for bodies sake.
We have 15 guys on the OL? Why does it feel like we have 4?
if they just let defenders run through like they have all last season, do they still count as OL?
I am relieved the most to see Brett Johnson still listed on the roster. Players with so many injuries, you never know when they will retire or transfer.

Depth of only 4. Might still want more. Wilcox said they definitely intend to fill more spots for OL.
The thing not addressed by Wilcox presser is strength and conditioning.
So many injuries. I am bummed Starling is out for Spring.
Starling already out or is this the same injury he suffered v. UW?
Same, I think.
I would not give short shrift to Troy Taylor. I think we might defy the odds.
