Cal Football Special Teams Coach Charlie Ragle reportedly in the mix for Montana State Head Coach gig
A surprise development
Cal Football Special Teams coach Charlie Ragle is currently being named on the shortlist to become the next Head Coach at Montana State, according to skylinesportsmt.com. Montana State is currently looking for a new HC after Jeff Choate left the position, after 3 years in charge, to become inside linebackers coach and Co-DC under Steve Sarkesian at Texas.
According to the report, Coach Ragle has had a zoom interview with the hiring committee. He is a strong candidate according to Skyline Sports, alongside
Coach Ragle is currently the only position coach and coordinator left on Cal’s staff that has been at the same position from the start of Coach Wilcox’s tenure. The other only remaining position coach from the start of the Wilcox era is Coach Tui, who moved from QB to Tight End. He’s been the special teams’ coordinator while dropping the tight ends coach role after the rule change to allow the 10th assistant. Prior to joining the Bears, Ragle has had stops as a head coach at the high school rank in Arizona and as special teams coordinator under Rich Rodriguez at Arizona.
I know everyone is gonna rush to judge and might be thinking why would they hire him as HC. But trust me when I say that if you spend some time talking to him. He’s genuinely a dude who has all the traits of a good head coach. I think that’s honestly his best fit is being a HC somewhere more than a position coach or coordinator.
oh damn well this would suck on the recruiting front, I did enjoy what he brought from Zona if he decides to leave. I can definitely say I sure as hell will not miss all of the inept punt returning and punt coverage we had over his years though.
