Cal football transfer commit: Jaden Mickey, CB from Notre Dame
The California Golden Bears land another Fighting Irish transfer.
The Notre Dame to Cal pipeline continues to grow strong, as cornerback Jaden Mickey is headed our way according to On3. Cal already landed defensive lineman Tyson Ford a few days ago, with Aidan Keanaaina and Tobias Merriweather already coming in from last year.
Mickey appeared in the first four games of the 2024 season for Notre Dame before entering the portal, which should preserve an additional year of eligibility. He recently lost his mother to cancer during the 2023 season, so this will at least allow him to stay closer to home.
During his sophomore season in 2023, Mickey appeared in all 13 games for Notre Dame, starting twice. He recorded 11 tackles, including eight solo stops, and showcased his playmaking ability with a 43-yard pick-six. He also contributed two pass breakups, solidifying his presence on the field.
As a freshman in 2022, Mickey saw action in 11 games, earning one start in his debut season. He tallied nine tackles, with seven being solo efforts, demonstrating early promise as a reliable defensive contributor for the Fighting Irish.
Cal is replenishing most of their secondary this offseason, so this is the first of what should be several major additions on our defensive backline.
Welcome to Cal Jaden! Go Bears!
Being a rotation player for ND as only a Sophomore is quite impressive! Seems like a great get
Great news! Welcome to CAL, GO BEARS
