I hope all of these Portal transfers embrace Cal as an academic institution as well. Tosh and his staff need to take "student-athlete" seriously, even if guys enter the Portal in a year.
Brillaint take on how size actually matters for rebuilding the O-line. Beating out Alabama for a 320-pound tackle who played in the SEC says alot about where Lupoi's priorities are. I coached some high school linemen and the ones with raw athletic upside tend to develop way better than polished but undersized guys. Three years of eligiblity is basically hitting the jackpot timing-wise.
I feel he's worth recruiting just to say we have a Jimothy on the roster. Incredible.
Great get with lots of potential, especially considering the Bama offer. Some Mississippi State fans are critical of his performance, but that's what coaches and position competitions are for. I am personally quite excited to see what he brings!
More to come from me about this on Monday, and there's lots of portal time left to change things, but I think this will probably be the single more important commitment Cal gets this offseason. Not the best, not the most talented. But probably the most important.
I hear you. Given the current roster, it certainly seems like plan A is for him to start at one of the tackle spots. He's got a pedigree going back to high school that I believe is unmatched among our o lineman and I think Williams is the only other tackle with a P4 start. Do we know if any of the young guys (Hasenheutl, McMorris, etc.) are expected to compete for a starting spot?
The buzz seems to be "unrealized potential." But if we can coach him up...man, oh, man. There are only so many proven elite OTs out there, so this is what success looks like to me.
As Brad Pitt’s character Mickey says when he first sees Gorgeous George in Guy Ritchie’s classic film Snatch: “F&$% ME. Wouldya look at the size of him?”
Fantastic! I’ll leave the details to all the people who contribute on WFC and know much more football than I do. I would like to offer that just seven weeks ago (7!) Cal lost ugly to Furd. Fast forward to today, Cal has as new coaching staff, retained JKS, a Top Ten portal recruiting slate, and the potential upside on all of it is real. Nothing short of amazing!
I've wanted Tosh back in Berkeley since he left, I've missed the banger recruiting classes. Go Bears forever!
This guy looks great. Do we know who is coaching the O line next year? Is Anae coming back?
Anae is recruiting these kids so I think he's coming back. We also hired an Offensive Tackle coach too.
looks like we picked up a pair of DL in Justin Beadles and Ashun Shepphard

Where has Rugbear been. Need his analysis of our new linemen
Hibernation
We need the 'Big Uglies' on the OL.
Jimothy…like getting two players?
Two words: GO BEARS
ALWAYS!!!
Hope these boys can handle themselves in the classroom too…
Does the classroom even exist in the NIL/portal world any more?
Fair

Good call - protecting JKS and opening holes is critical for everything to work offensively.

Except we lost Cade. That really sucks
Great news Ken.
Sucks to maybe lose some guys, but this program needs a culture re-boot and if the staff is getting the guys they want all the better.
We also got his teammate, DL Ashun Sheppard
Mississippi State lost some close games and played in a tough conference. I hope these guys can help us improve.
