I don't care when incoming transfers transfer again. They are journeymen. But it hurts a bit more when our HS recruits who became starters transfer, like Cam Sidney.

Just watched Indiana manhandle Alabama. Indiana has a group of top tear players (in addition to Mendoza) all brought in via the portal & NIL in the last two years. Hopefully Tosh will be able to do the same at Cal.

This post started off sounding like it was indicting the current state of affairs and yet ends with a hearty endorsement mercenarism. Not sure whether it was intended but happy to take the journey with you in the time of rapid change

Your comment helped me realize that my original post was somewhat convoluted, so I rewrote it. Thanks for your constructive comment.

Considering where things were 12 months ago, and where they are today, there’s reason for optimism. Go Bears!

We knew the portal will be extremely active this off-season. It's very one-sided right now since our incoming coaching staff and their teams are still playing (which is what happens when you hire from winning teams) while our players aren't.

It's stressful, but all we can do is provide the incoming staff the resources they need the be patient and let them cook.

that defensive in Oregon wowey.

Tosh bring those young players with you.

We will welcome them with open arms and a buttload of money.

yea yeah I know Oregon has a lot of money, but they don't got Tosh!

I was taught long ago that free option is one of the best things in the world. Putting your name in the transfer portal is just that. I don’t fault anyone for testing the market when it’s free to do so.

The nature of CFB has completely changed. This is a new version of pro league. Nando only took online classes while at Indiana so he can focus on football, Heisman race and winning national championship. The idea of student athlete is completely gone. This is year by year championship race funded by money.

Correct...and the sport is more popular than ever. We are where we are, so let's support Cal in making the very most of the new world order.

I'd like to know if those entering the portal have first had a discussion with some of the new coaching staff. I assume Tosh and others have watched a lot of film and are already getting a sense of who they might like to keep and who they might be nudging out. But, that's only an assumption. It may simply be wanting to know how much $$ others might think they're worth??

Losing Sidney hurts more than the others just because of his production and consistency last season. 47 tackles plus an INT from the secondary is solid work, and replacing that won't be easy. Burrell's situation is tougher to gage since injuries kept him out, but the fact that he's leaving instead of staying for a fresh start under Lupoi says alot about where he thinks he's at physically. The portal has become such a wildcard for rebuilding, but atleast Tosh has recruiting momentum.
