Feel bad for remigio. He's the team member who does great work and still ends up with an F on the project because the rest of the group was too busy getting high.

TD_24's avatar

Just dont match up well. Slow vs fast never works.

sacman701's avatar

Not the issue. We completely neglected to cover a receiver.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Tho we did steal '19 at UCLA, right? Did DTR play in that game tho?

GoldenSD81's avatar

He did but then he got injured at the end of the game.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

That UCLA team was a heartless bunch too....no bowl for them that year, team had quit...IIRC now....

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yep, they were done at that point in the season and they still gave us a bit of a game.

SallyBear's avatar

We’ll always have last week?

TD_24's avatar

I forgot who said it but someone said our 1st ranked rush D was phony because we hadn't played anyone good on O the last month. Tonight sure showed it. 282 rush yards on us good lord.

WilderThanGene's avatar

The whole conference has been so bad that none of these in-conference stats really mean anything this year.

GoldenHairs's avatar

just got opened right up

Calbears93's avatar

I have seen a lot of bad cal football. That second half is right up there.

sacman701's avatar

That was easily the worst half we've played under Wilcox. We've had other bad halves, but we had excuses for those. Today we just got run out of the stadium by a team that's nothing special.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Well said...just overmatched by an athletic, physically superior & confident defense.

SadAndColdNortheastBear's avatar

pretty consistently against UCLA these past few years (2018 blowout, 2020 COVID surprise, today)

WilderThanGene's avatar

Chip knows how to twist the knife

SadAndColdNortheastBear's avatar

Yep, I remember feeling especially pissed after the 2018 game

Justbear's avatar

I think it's just one of many terrible Cal football I've seen, and I don't really distinguish any of them.

WilderThanGene's avatar

I guess part of it is how long you've been watching. Since 2001-ish for me. There were a few epic losses in that time where we looked like an FCS team.

But it feels like we rarely showed much promise inside the seasons with which those occurred, like we do with Wilcox. That's whats so frustrating about him the last 2 maybe 3 years. Completely, I mean entirely different Cal teams show up from week to week. You never know which unit is going to shit the beg, while other units look stellar. They rotate sucking and playing well.. And then every once in a while, they all come together. And every once in a while, they all play like shit at the same time.

Calbears93's avatar

Always a problem when Daniel Scott seemed to be making every play on defense. Why is Lic Bequette still on the field? He never makes plays. Give the young kids a chance.

Bongo Bear's avatar

This is a huge reality check. Some of us thought we might actually beat all three California schools in the same season.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Nope....needed the Arizona game....Cal hasn't swept the CA schools since the Eisenhower administration (I believe....fact check?)

A Wilcox-led O was not going to be the first to do it....

Bongo Bear's avatar

Not since 1958. And people thought that THIS was the team that would finally do it?

TD_24's avatar

f'ing pathetic lmao. Garbers looking like a mix of scared Derek Carr and TJ Finley for Auburn today. Not even so much an effort to throw the damn ball under pressure.

TD_24's avatar

Told everyone at the furd tailgate. Not that they are that much better, it was just the style that killed it. We match up horrifically with them at every level.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Exactly...Kelly schematically has Wilcox's number

Bongo Bear's avatar

I like Allen's hands A LOT

KetamineCal's avatar

Excellent T Rex imitation tonight.

coyote32's avatar

By the numbers, ucla is pretty easily the worst pass D in the conference. We are averaging like 4 yards per attempt to go along with two picks.

Joseph Kim's avatar

what a quick turnaround. wow. hope we keep it up. and good call by alpha!

GlueAndBold's avatar

Two TDs in two minutes feels pretty dang good

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Run....the.....football

Calbears93's avatar

Good thing screens coming now.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Musgrave has finally adjusted.

Oski Disciple's avatar

So for the 63rd year in a row we won't beat our three rivals in the same season. Shit!

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Thank you - Eisenhower was president, no?

goldenone's avatar

Cold reality check here folks

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

The difference in athleticism and speed between these two teams is staggering.

GoldenSD81's avatar

The difference is coaching. Kelly and ucla run a power spread, that is easy to learn. We run a complex and old school pro style offense that is hard to learn. If we ran a power spread we would be in this game since our strength is our running game.

WilderThanGene's avatar

The more I hear about this power spread the more I think I like it. I feel like I've been conditioned to think there is only pro style or air raid and nothing in between...

Archon79's avatar

I don’t agree. They have a better QB and better RB. Its not like they boat raced us.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

What game are watching, Arch?

WilderThanGene's avatar

They broke our will after 2.5 quarters.. but I agree with Architron 79000 to an extent that they didnt blow the doors off us from the start, like one of those epic Oregon or USC beat downs of times past.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

No, but they're bigger, stronger and faster than us at pretty much every position.

Take away the muffed kickoff, and this game is decidedly non-competitive

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Ya, the LB that actually got the sack wasn't on the LOS but he did put pressure on... but the 3 man rush flushed Garbers

WilderThanGene's avatar

we need to stop them from scoring another TD this game if only so they stop doing that shit with the lights

LABear1983's avatar

I noticed they were doing this same stupid thing at Fresno

KetamineCal's avatar

Excellent defense by the turf.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Momentum moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

- Ferris Bueller

TezCalipoca's avatar

Roll on you Bears!......

Joseph Kim's avatar

yeah thank god for that remigio catch on 3rd and 14

GoldenSD81's avatar

That was a great catch and a good pass by Garbers. I was afraid it was going to get picked or that the defender would knock it our of Remigios hands.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Stick with the run Musgrave!! Don’t get cute with the passing game and trying to force it.

Wiata78's avatar

Defense still looking good

Calbears93's avatar

All those years stanfurd put a smart and physical team on the field with tough academic standards. Hope cal can do that one day. Fear Wilcox won’t recruit those players not will he ever attract the talent tedford did

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Those Stanford teams were physically dominant in the trenches on both sides...they controlled the LOS. Their OL never got overwhelmed like this....

Joseph Kim's avatar

Well at least we also get chase back next year. No way this game helps his NFL prospects

WilderThanGene's avatar

Chase just signed a 4 year extension, he's a done deal for the next 4 years.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Chase is the blessing and the curse. It’s true hostage situation right now for the Cal offense.

goldenone's avatar

It's time to move on from Chase. He's had his chances in those program defining games and hasn't performed...

Justbear's avatar

The biggest problem is we haven't had anyone challenge even close to Garbers ability.

Calbears93's avatar

Please lord move on. He is not a good passing QB. Bottom quartile in D1 at best. Good instincts and running ability behind a mediocre line. We really need a good passing QB who can find tigers over the middle. Give Milner the start last game…nothing to lose!

sacman701's avatar

Garbers may decide that he just wants to take his degree and get on with his life.

Archon79's avatar

Chase should go to a school that will use him correctly and recognize what he is, an RPO dual threat QB with limited arm talent

GoldenSD81's avatar

He would be great in the ucla power spread.

WilderThanGene's avatar

maybe even take his talents to South Beach

GoldenSD81's avatar

I think he would be great at SDSU.

Archon79's avatar

Wait, NFL? Garbers???

TezCalipoca's avatar

He was never leaving early

Joseph Kim's avatar

Hey I'm trying to find positives, lol

TezCalipoca's avatar

Beat furd one more time!

Oski Disciple's avatar

Remember when we were leading, 14-10? That was fun.

SallyBear's avatar

Yeah… only one actual scoring drive of more than 20 yards this game.

Calbears93's avatar

True. Brutal. Offense was so bad I just don’t get it.

TezCalipoca's avatar

Those were the good old days

LABear1983's avatar

I don’t see how you can blame Garbers for all of this. It’s a team sport!

GoldenSD81's avatar

This is 4 down territory now. Please run the ball Musgrave.

GlueAndBold's avatar

Brooks is averaging 5 yards per carry.

RUN. THE. BALL.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Garbers is awful tonight. Brutally bad....wha' happened.

Justbear's avatar

Should we put in Glover?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

NEVER...he should be manning a radar tower in Alaska....mail him his clothes.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Sadly he is the best we have.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I'm praying he returns for his 8th season

Wiata78's avatar

There is static pressure, dynamic pressure, and stagnation pressure

WilderThanGene's avatar

geology is the study of pressure and time

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Terrible punt. Shoulda gone for it after the offsides.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

1 play and they're at midfield....no bueno

FromCtoShining(Blue)C's avatar

You see a commercial that is old and tired...

GoldenSD81's avatar

You see we have no budget.

Wiata78's avatar

So, we staying here for the second half?

WilderThanGene's avatar

Much like the start of the FS1 game stream, it could be happening and you would never know it.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I'm gonna stay here, howling at the moon...don't mind me.....

GoldenSD81's avatar

Are you in SD? If so, we should meet up to watch a game.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Definitely - next time I'm down there I'll hit you up. I'll get you my info.

I came home yesterday morning....breezed through LA (surprisingly) but it took me 130 minutes to get from HWY 134/101 interchange to Santa Barbara...FML? It usually take an hour.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Ouch, my brother drove home from Folsom yesterday after being up there with the in laws and he said it was brutal on the road.

GlueAndBold's avatar

Ok, room for improvement but we're absolutely still in this. Getting a stop on the first drive will be crucial though.

Justbear's avatar

well, looks like we won't have to worry about WIlcox's end of first half clock management

Joseph Kim's avatar

Love how D is always trying to strip

Bongo Bear's avatar

I'm so relieved we got the TD there. Would've been crushing not to capitalize on that great field position.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

The one that turned into a first down?

Justbear's avatar

we have not been capitalizing on turnovers or great field position all year, so i was afraid too

bearspot's avatar

And get the FG if that doesn't work. But it should work.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Bears O looks unprepared for the UCLA pressure

GoldenSD81's avatar

How do we look this unprepared against ucla?! Are we blaming this one on Covid again?
