It will be a whole new team next year huh?

It’s about the money, which nine out of ten times is going to be top priority, assuming you don’t come from a super wealthy family. If you could entertain numerous offers, most of which would be a significant raise (double, triple what you made this year), why wouldn’t you put yourself into the portal? You don’t know if you’re going to avoid injury, etc.; at any time you could shoot down to zero portal value. You simply need to strike while the iron’s hot. Saying it’s an indictment on this person or that person is missing the main point of minor league football-which is what NCAA football has become: to springboard yourself to the next higher level/income strata. All of this with the backdrop of knowing the vast majority of players won’t ever see the NFL, CFL or other league (which won’t pay as much as you might make through the portal, anyway). So, guys have to get $$$ now, for their own futures. I would.

Sad, but this is what college sports has come to…especially for the revenue sports.

With Toler leaving it was a blow to the receiving coaching. Also, he's a true Golden Bear as his family has long connections to the Bear football history. His players genuinely respected him and played well and hard for him. Now, many have and will enter the transfer portal. .

Graves: Will he get a medical redshirt?

Some major talent departing and that sucks. But can't be bummed because the portal giveth and the portal taketh.

Sad to see it but the reality is we are in for a big offensive reboot. We might as well buckle up.

Unfortunately, with 2 more receivers leaving Cal, I think this is an indictment on Wilcox and the new coaching staff and of course not having a true leader or a #1 QB in house . These guys would definitely have the potential to grow and be a big part of the Cal Offense if these things were in place .. especially a QB

What isn't going to be considered an indictment on Wilcox at this point?

I'm not worried about WRs leaving.

Ultimately, it’s an indictment of Wilcox. However, The WR departures may also have to do with the changeover in offensive coaching staff, particularly Toler.

The new offensive coaches seem solid to me though and are building the OL really quickly, which should be attractive to potential WR’s and QB’s.

That was my point. If, We had these positions in place and ready to go We would not have to worry about losing additional players in the portal. This makes the job harder in finding a QB and new receivers.

I always say, if your the star of your team, "never leave"! Think about what happened to Demetrious Robertson! #1 WR in the country and our star player, leaves for whatever reason and never shines again. Subsequently, dropping his draft status to UDFA! If he stayed at Cal, he would've went 2nd or 3rd round easy! Stars should never leave, the NFL will find you!

Any news/buzz on the QB front in terms of prospects via the portal? I would imagine receivers would want to know who the likely QB is.

I think Sluka would be an interesting choice.

Yes, sorry to see them go and hope we can recruit and restock with the new coaching staff. Players want to play for some coaches more than others. It always seemed that Toler was a guy players liked playing for. Don't know anything about why he was let go, aside from his receivers not blocking downfield effectively, but attrition of talent hurts.

Welp, I believe this is Wilcox's Alamo year. Either he gets ahead or heads out.

Mikey being missing will be a major loss. He was clutch beyond his numbers with the timing of some of the plays he made.
