Bowens credits Tosh for being the reason why he chose Cal and that if it werent for hiring Tosh, he would not have considered Cal.

Man, moments like this are why I can’t believe people were against hiring Tosh. When was the last time Cal managed to recruit a 4 star EDGE player out of high school? He’s been an amazing hire so far.

Go Tosh! Go Bears!

Just to be clear -- nobody questions his recruiting prowess. There's just a section of Cal fans that fear how hard he would burn the university if he feels spurned like he did the first time around. That said, it's been ten years and he's had every opportunity to grow into a man.

Excited for our future top 10 recruiting classes!

KEO, 5 years ago. It said so in the article.

Was a rhetorical question but fair enough. Still impressive Tosh managed to get one in his first full season of HS recruiting. And surely there will be more impressive gets to come.

He will be one of so many that we will think this is normal soon.

It’s a very good sign that guys like Alualu and Cam Jordan are personally invested in the Cal rebuild to relevance. I think Lupoi has shown he can use existing contacts and grow new relationships to promote win-win experiences for all involved. People want to be on board this ship..

Very solid. Bought season tickets for the first time in a looooong time (and looking forward to traveling up from LA half a dozen times this year)

Off topic, but Tosh Lupoi is an interesting name. Anyone know his family history?

Lupoi is of Italian in origin (related to "wolf", maybe patronymic). Tosh has a lot of potential origins. In this case, I think it may be related to the name Tony. So he's basically Tony Wolf or Tony Wolfson. Best I can figure out.

A lot of my sources are articles about his family's Italian-style store named Lupoi's Market in Walnut Creek. A lot of people named Tony in that family.

Here's his grandfather's obituary. He was born in Sinopoli, Reggio Calabria, Italy.

Thanks for both links. What an insight into Tosh (ESPN link) and his heritage (obit). This is a special dude. Can’t wait for the new season, but must.

I am so ready for it! And to think his recruiting should have even more impact in 2027.
