Cal lands commitment of 2027 consensus four-star edge Troy Bowens
A local and highly sought after pass rusher, the early commitment of Bowens further showcase HC Lupoi's recruiting acumen
Cal has been looking for talented pass rushers for the longest time via the high school recruiting circuit, and they got their guy in Troy Bowens.
Cal has not had a four-star front-seven prep commitment since the 2021 signing of Kaleb-Elarms Orr (recruited as an EDGE, played as an inside linebacker). He is the highest-rated defensive recruit Cal has had since Elarms Orr, Derek Wilkins, and Akili Calhoun joined in the class of 2021.
Bowens, per the 247 Composite, is nationally ranked as the 257th highest recruit, 28th best EDGE, and 21st highest rated recruit in California.
His recruiting ranking is backed up by 17 offers from major P4 programs: Michigan, Oregon (where Lupoi was his primary recruiter), Stanford, Washington, and Notre Dame to name a few.
He is the fourth recruit for Tosh Lupoi’s inaugural high school class, joining Giovanni Hodge as the second Californian and EDGE player.
Bowens sports a 6’4”, 250-pound frame for an edge player. In high school, his primary alignment is as a 4-3 EDGE with his hand in the dirt. He has room on his frame to later kick in as a defensive end in a 3-4 look defense that Cal looks to deploy under Lupoi.
Both Jordan Lupoi (Lupoi’s spouse) and Tyson Alualu have publicly congratulated Bowens on his choice, and I also endorse his choice in this matter.
Tyson Alualu, as well as Cam Jordan, were present during Bowen’s recent visit and looked to be important voices in securing the player’s commitment.
