Cal Men's Basketball earns the commitment of North Dakota transfer F BJ Omot
Mark Madsen continues to build
After recently landing Jeff Nwankwo, Mark Madsen continues to strike in the transfer portal. This time its BJ Omot, a transfer from North Dakota who will coming out west to represent the Golden Bears. The sophomore forward started in 32 games last year for the Fighting Hawks, averaging 16.7 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Omot really tries to get to the rim, scoring at a 58% clip when getting there. That is also where 46% of his field goal attempts come from, and at his 6’8 frame, he can get downhill with that length and athleticism. Last season he shot 41.4% from the field and 28.2% from three point range, signaling that his jumper is a work in progress.
This past season, Omot was named all Summit League first team, and will look to carry that momentum into the ACC next year. He joins Lee Dort and Nwankwo as the scholarship additions for Cal, with more sure to come.
Welcome to Cal BJ!
So exciting. Congratulations.
This team will be so exciting ! !
When Mark was a senior at San Ramon Valley High School, he was student body president and well liked. One day I mentioned to his best friend, Jeff Petersen, that it was Marks birthday and if anyone came over to celebrate it after school. ….we would order as much pizza as needed.
Hundreds came. They brought their own pop cans because Mark doesn’t drink alcohol. They began to stack the empty cans in a pyramid on the patio. It became taller than a person. The doorbell rang again and again. I answered again and saw kids I didn’t know and of another race. I ran to tell Mark and he went to the door, opened it and threw his arms around each one of the kids. “Mom! These are some of my very, very best friends!” Their faces lit up. My face lit up too. I mean he sincerely loves everyone….. and not just alittle. He loves everyone so so much.
Thanks TD: Welcome Omot!! Another nice get…kid’s got upside. Love it.
Also gonna have to add some proven P5 talent tho…but Coach and staff are building a nice base.
