Looks good, a consensus 4-star. 6'8" is great but only 185 lbs? He may need to bulk up a bit to compete at this level. But weight is much easier to add than height, talent, and character.
Love his film. He’s got a unique skillset for a big…I want Omot and Gus Larson eating the trifecta for lunch daily then hitting the weights…Top Dog, a Blondie’s slice and a coke at noon…Every. Single. Day.
My only real concern is that he’s probably not going to be able to consistently dribble-drive straight to the tin in the ACC…that may work v. fringe D1 players at Denver and Omaha, but how’s it gonna play v. teams like UVA or All-America caliber bigs like PJ Hall, Blake Hinson, Armando Bacot?
Can’t wait to see this staff start to develop players…didn’t really get a chance with the transfer-heavy roster last year.
100%. We even saw Jaylen Brown get snuffed repeatedly on dribble drives and dude's talent is otherworldly. Fighting through screens and rebounding will also be more physical.
But he's talented and unique so the staff can guide his development in many different directions.
When Mark was a senior at San Ramon Valley High School, he was student body president and well liked. One day I mentioned to his best friend, Jeff Petersen, that it was Marks birthday and if anyone came over to celebrate it after school. ….we would order as much pizza as needed.
Hundreds came. They brought their own pop cans because Mark doesn’t drink alcohol. They began to stack the empty cans in a pyramid on the patio. It became taller than a person. The doorbell rang again and again. I answered again and saw kids I didn’t know and of another race. I ran to tell Mark and he went to the door, opened it and threw his arms around each one of the kids. “Mom! These are some of my very, very best friends!” Their faces lit up. My face lit up too. I mean he sincerely loves everyone….. and not just alittle. He loves everyone so so much.
He can play the 4. And if you watch the tape and look at the stats, it's not that he can't shoot, it's that his shot selection is awful for the level of shooter he is. That can be fixed more easily than a guy who straight up cannot shoot under any circumstance. He shot 6 3's a game and you see him take deep 3's, contested 3's, 3's not in rhythm, etc... With us, we're probably hoping he's shooting 1.5-2.5 a game to keep the other team honest.
I think he may need to bulk up to play the 4 at this level (185 lbs) but he's certainly athletic. Agree that he doesn't need to be a sniper, just a credible enough threat to spread the defense or pop one if he's wide open.
Presto. Madsen is pulling a rabbit out of the hat.

Keep it coming, Mad Dog!

So exciting. Congratulations.
This team will be so exciting ! !

What a great story to tell. Don't know if you are his mom or not, but getting to know him on a more personal level, within bounds, is great.
He sounds like he's going to be on the bench. But he will provide an inside presence which is still useful
Why? 6'8, highly athletic, very efficient in the paint.
Yeah this guy’s seeing quality minutes.
If they play zone and deny the paint, he can't shoot.

That’s why the staff’s gonna have to add shooters. Hopefully they will.
Thanks TD: Welcome Omot!! Another nice get…kid’s got upside. Love it.
Also gonna have to add some proven P5 talent tho…but Coach and staff are building a nice base.
