Thanks! Great to be here

So, the beauty of retaining Newell, Askew, Celestine, ND & Bowser, while adding impact guys in Aimaq and Cone, along with Rodney Brown (who can shoot) is that now they can focus on solid glue guys for those last 3-4 slots. Sure, it’d be great to land one more impact guy, but even if we don’t currently have the NIL $$$ for it now, I have faith in Madsen to find a ball handler, another shooter, and a big or 2…guys that can fit his system and help the squad win…meanwhile, Devin Curtis can be brought along at his own pace.

Exciting times!!

If he turns out to be as good as we hope, I think it would be a very large missed opportunity for Cal athletics to fail to sell blue and gold traffic cones we can wear on our heads during at least one game.

Hi, I'm new here. But does anyone have an updated list of our current roster (minus guys leaving through grad/transfer and including 4 new frosh/transfer guys)? Thanks and Cal Basketball is getting more exciting!

I flew up to Seattle for that UW game and stayed the weekend, but didn’t go to that WSU game as chance would have it. He could have been the difference in that UNC game. We played tough, but they were LOADED.

I was at the Carrier Dome for that one. I believe we were up 8 at the under 8, and then Jamison took over...

Wow, I watched it at a packed and rowdy Kip’s. I don’t remember us being up like that late. I mostly remember us being not far behind, but never being able to turn the corner on them. But my memory is shot!

Mine may be a little hazy as well…that was during my Irish Whiskey phase that ran from ‘95 through 2018….lots of shots of were thrown down…but we were D’ing the F up, and coulda swore we had an 8-point lead at a media timeout…maybe it was the 12. Then Antawn had a series of dunks, and it slipped away.

Nice run. You’re the Lebron of Irish Whiskey abusers.

The always-disappointing and completely underwhelming former Mrs. Chitwood would certainly agree.

Thank you. I was surprised that as a point guard he did not have more assists. Then again, it depends on the offense he was a part of. Defense is always important, so I hope he is a learner even after three years of basketball experience.

Can we learn more about his history?

Virginia Tech > NAU > Cal. In terms of player, he commands a high usage for the ball with the ability to drive hard and spot up from the perimeter. To see his ceiling, I would look at the Big Sky conference Tournament from March. Is a bit of a traffic cone (ba dum ts) on defense but that can be coached up.

The mentality should not be improvement. It is win, now. Jump on board and win now.

Mad Bear baby. Grrrr.

Expand full comment

Exactly. The days of 4 years of steady improvement are done, at least in the Power 5 with the NIL resources Cal has.

Oh yeah I won't tolerate "steady improvement" lol

Maybe I should have said incremental....you know what I mean.

And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?"

And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house"

And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"

Letting the days go by...

Is this still a Cal site or has someone pulled a joke on me? We can have nice things....

Go Bears!! Go Mad Dog.

I'm excite about Cal MBB....again.

Any reference to Talking Heads gets a big LIKE from me. They were the soundtrack to my years at Cal, and still now of my life. What a great post!

"This is my next and last stop so I’m really locked in on the basketball aspect of things. I’m going to be in a Power 5 conference, playing big time basketball, and playing the role a team needs me to play. That’s how I made my decision."

I believe its one year, '19-'20 counts, '20-'21 doesnt, '21-'22 does, '22-'23 does, so 3 years used

Mads is going to earn his pay this season.

Won’t be an easy task assembling and coaching up an entire team (pretty much), but I think we’ll see some real improvement throughout the year.

Hope shall return to Berkeley and we all know that rebellions are built on hope.

I think we see major improvement on day 1, TBH.

MadDog has done more in one week than Fox did in 3 years. Actually recruiting someone who can shoot.

WE'RE BACK BABY! Took just a week for the Mad Hatter to make strides towards being competitive. Not too often when someone turns their words into results so quickly, in ANY program. Obviously it's early but you really gotta tip your cap to Mark for making it happen.

"You can't get guys at Cal"....recency bias is a heck of a drug. Go Bears!

It really shows just how much of a hopeless dinosaur Mark Fox actually is…the game completely passed him by, and he did nothing to embrace those changes.

Again, the good old Caucasian boy network will find him another job somewhere, but unless he changes his approach drastically, he should never coach above NAIA again.
