We don't have reliable inside scoring. We don't have reliable outside scoring. We don't have consistent drive to the basket players. Got to have some of one or the other...
Down low on the block especially. Puzzled though not surprised that Fox has not sought to address the post...he doesn’t give FR consistent minutes, so can we realistically expect much of an impact from the talented-but-extremely-raw ND Okafor? Lars, while admittedly somewhat improved in ‘21-‘22, is nonetheless still very limited as a player, both offensively and defensively...DJ Thorpe has given them only spot minutes in his career prior to missing all of this past season due to injury.
As I added. As it stands he probably has to submit another waiver to play this year. If he doesn’t get it he’s not an impact recruit. Won’t play until 22-23 seasob.
Being a big fish in a big pond (Kentucky and Texas) seems to not have worked well. At Cal he'll be a starter and a primary option and closer to home, with less pressure while still facing good competition. Seems closer to what he succeeded with in high school and hopefully a better situation overall for him.
You never know what was going on and why things didn't work with previous schools - such is life. New beginning for the young man, wish him luck! Does he have 2 years of eligibility left?
Askew just hasn't got the college production to make the ranking, I think. Of course, IF one believe in Mark Fox's ability to develop players...maybe he will fulfill his potential with the Bears. The opportunities will certainly be there.
Tough to know what the Bears can expect. ESPN had him as a 5*, as he was highly recruited, re-classified to graduate early & joined the Wildcats for the COVID mess of a season. That UK team was bad tho, and while he struggled with his shooting and turnovers, he nonetheless showed promise, averaging 6.5/2.5/3.0 in 29 mpg. There seemed to be something to work with.
Then he entered the portal, and did basically nothing for Beard at Texas. Now he’s with his 3rd school in 3 years, and that HS ranking seems a distant memory. If he’s eligible, great, but if not, he doesn’t help a bit...normally I’d say he should expect the waiver, but it’s Cal, so I fully expect the NCAA to make him sit.
Intriguing add, but he will have to show the year in Austin was an outlier. I will say, a player with his pedigree and P5 Conference experience, ya know, maybe, who knows...with a HC not named Mark Fox, I’d say maybe something clicks...unfortunately it IS Fox, so I while it’s an interesting profile and add, not sure we’re any closer to a top 8 finish....
Hard to predict, but even if he gets the waver and he arrives as something closer to what projections were coming out of HS, it's hard to see this team climbing very far next year. But it certainly helps.

THAT’S it...it is a major, major issue.

Typo. 23-24.
Well...Um...this was not the news I expected to wake up to. Lets get it!
Interesting…
He's gonna be bummed when he learns who our shoe sponsor is

Depressed asset that fills a huge hole. I like it. Don't love that tat though! I first thought it read "Suck It Life".
The tat could be useful:
Breaking up w/ a gf and she wants an explanation: lift the shirt
Get in a car accident and other driver goes berserk: lift the shirt
He doesn't make the starting lineup: lift the shirt and read it backward in a mirror
Or possibly his attitude towards getting demoted to Cal hoops. :)
On the ESPN Insider's list of College Basketball players in the portal: Andre Kelly is ranked 77th, Devin Askew is not listed among the list of 100 nor the 28 "next in line". https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/32884345/college-basketball-transfer-rankings-2022-23-season
Is it possible that he wouldn't show up in the portal as this is his second college transfer?

Yeah he is more of a prospect whereas Kelly is a known quantity. I will take it, as it is better than not having him!
With this squad I'm ok with taking big swings on upside. And just getting another PG to fill is reason for celebration enough.

oh. I hope it works out. Good luck Bears!
