Still have faith in Madsen, but after the previous regime disaster this program really can’t compete in the current NIL/portal era. Maybe the House Settlement changes things a little, and we need a charismatic GM in the worst way.
The best candidates would be Sean Marks or Shareef Abdur-Rahim...but they seem to be saturated in their current, high-profile roles. Who else is out there that fits the bill? Gotta be somebody with business acumen and a bit of flash. Big drop off after those two.
Most important is we need someone to galvanize donor support. Football has legit donors who make the $’s at least somewhat competitive, at least v the non-blue blood schools we are largely in competition with. We’re at least in the ballpark.
That’s just not true in MBB. Donor-wise, we are basically a mid-major, as the roster reflects. Again, maybe the House Settlement changes things but well what happens. Madsen can only do so much with a positive attitude because a whole new roster each season limits how much of a system you can even implement, offensively and defensively. And then it just becomes strictly a talent issue, and without $$$ we don’t have the talent….
