Nothing to say really. No real strategy or ability to execute

This team is not getting brownie points in a rivalry game. We should have won this game but lost due to layups and stone hands. Unbelievable. At least this game reaffirmed that Stanford stinks.

We don't have an Ingram...

And I thought our special teams unit had trouble catching balls..... literally layups and hands are the reason we are behind

These guys have the worst hands in the league. No wonder we don't force TO's...they can't catch the focking ball.

Embarrassing. Secure a board, guys.

That is 100% a flagrant

The fuck was that from Grant. It's one thing to not execute but it's another to not give a crap especially in a rivalry game. Hellen Keller could've made that pass.

Expand full comment

On a good team, say UCLA, Grant is a rotation player getting 5-6 mpg....

Expand full comment

Can someone just make a play???

Expand full comment

Exactly. They play hard, always do....they're just not very efficient on offense. Too many misses on shots you gotta make....Jalen with the layup - that's gotta go.

Expand full comment

Well first touch by Foreman and he scores

Expand full comment

Where's he been? Shepherd running the O is a major strike against Fox....he's not that type of player.

This is slipping away. Not having Kelly doesn't mean you should be totally inept with layups good lord this is embarrassing. How the hell are we leetting James Keefe own us man. I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd be asking to put LT21 back in but here we are.

Shepherd is a frigging ball hog. Just another ho-hum 3-11 shooting line.

Share the ball, Jordan. More creating for others, like the KK dunk.

Expand full comment

See...more creating for Shepherd is goooooood

LT21 been the best player so far. That's a problem (but good for him independent of that). Get Kuany out of there this is not his game or matchup.

Expand full comment

Tough to really find a team that is his matchup. Alajiki should be getting twice as many minutes as KK

Stanford teams always look the same. So bland, no personality.

But they play smart. Cal doesn't...for such smart kids, these guys make a lot of bonehead plays....Kuany with a reach late in the shot clock....sigh.

There's another loose ball they let slip out of bounds. Never seen a team squander so many opportunities to get the ball...damn

Expand full comment

These Cal kids are not instinctive defenders...we lack any one with a nose for the ball....dagger....

Where's Hip Hip Jorge when you need him????

Avi made a good point recently...this team is battling, but is there a path to being as good or better in '22-'23, his 4th year? While I'm admittedly often critical of Grant and Shepherd, along with Kelly (NOT critical of him), they are nonetheless the heart of this team...and they're all gone...

Man, this is a dark time for the program...Williams and Wyking just ruined it.

Expand full comment

Williams and Wyking may have ruined it, but Knowlton poured dirt on it. We're already three years past those guys, and we're only a hair better and probably tapped out on any potential under this regime. Honestly, the lack of any bold, smart or logical corrective to those guys' guys tenures is far more frustrating to me. Fox tenure has been so predictably un-anything. No buzz. No imagination. D.O.A. Had we hired Fox immediately after Cuonzo we'd be dragging Fox's name in the same way we drag Wyking's. His saving grace is just that he is not quite as bad as Wyking.

Williams was a bit of an outsider when he was hired as AD, so his swing and miss is perhaps more understandable. And while I was as puzzled as anyone about the Wyking hire, I also saw some logic and even upside. But Knowlton is a lifer, so his ineffectiveness and inability to see what is obvious to anyone who follows this team and this game sees is borderline malpractice. Knowlton strikes me as a guy who has made a career by just getting by.

Expand full comment

His hires are similarly in his mold. Fox is not a guy who's not gonna embarass his AD or put to much pressure on him. Part of that is because a guy like Fox knows his value, which is limited.

Expand full comment

Can’t argue with any of that. Fox was an unimaginative hire, with an unimaginative scheme.

Both team's starters scored 18 points, they're bench outscored ours 3-2. This feels like a weird preseason game.

What a slog this game is. Double the turnovers, no offensive rebounds, no shooting and we are down 1. I'll take it.

Expand full comment

Bears way too careless with the ball, per usual, otherwise they're up 5

How did Stanford beat SC twice?

Expand full comment

Gotta be size, and someone must've put a body on Boogie Ellis, which we haven't done.

Expand full comment

Why the fock is Kuany getting more minutes than Sam? Makes ZERO damn sense.

Assuming that is Adam Keefe's kid on Stanford?

Roberson may turn out to be a good player, but he really isn't much of a shooter at all.

Well Cal has the lead 18-14 after a 9-0 run. They are playing hard and crashing the glass way better. I said in the preview that Cal can win this game with 1 on 1 defense, Stanford has no creators outside of Ingram.

I've got to give it to Lars this is one of the few times I've seen him play without being a total liability. Easily been the best player so far. Yuck from everyone else especially KK who is getting cooked.

Sigh....this poor team can't catch a focking break. Just as the schedule opens up they lose their most indispensable player.

This one could get away from the Bears pretty quickly. UPDATE: They're playing hard!

Poor poor start on the glass so far. Can't be soft against this team. They aren't good but giving them extra chances is just asking for it.

rebounding is going to be a huge challenge w/o Kelly (and scoring, and defense, and...)

It will, someday.

But it ain't coming anytime soon, and it sure ain't coming with Mark Fox.

Fox will be gone after next year.

If they somehow lose to UW/WSU next week, he may be gone after this year. Let's say he only gets 2/3 more wins out of OSU/Utah/Stan at home. I'd say the seat gets hot right now.

They should lose to both Washington schools...Haas is a morgue.

This is rough,. folks. Alajiki hardly played today...would love to know the reasoning behind that....
