the ball is in your court ...cal! gerbear

Do we have sufficient incentives in place not to be terrible? It was like a high school team was playing the Warriors, and we are in the same conference! I feel like we need relegation or something!

Yawn.

I'm glad I missed this one.

Business as usual, another embarrassing loss. Coaches come and go but when you have one of, if not the worst AD in the P5 it really feels like this program is destined to remain a dumpster fire for the foreseeable future. Absent another scandal with one of the athletic programs, Joke Knowlton will be responsible for hiring the next basketball coach which is scary. I am not expecting or demanding final four appearances every year like Kentucky fans but it'd be nice to finish in the top four in the conference and have a legit chance at the tournament. Cal should never be in a situation where they are not even a top 15 California D1 basketball program.

We suck.

In the conversation for the worst D1 team in the entire country…Fox being allowed to finish this season still employed by the University of California is a great indicator of the current lack of leadership atop the Department.

I mentioned this in the WFC group chat. Our offensive output at Pauley in the MF era dropped from 51 PPG to 49 PPG! I also watched WCC basketball instead of this because....well duh

I watched so much good college basketball yesterday, including that St. Mary's / BYU game. It just made me sad and nostalgic. That type of excitement used to be semi-routine for us.

100% agree. You could fire up any other bay area/NorCal CBB squad and not miss a beat. SMC, SCU, SJSU, USF, hell even lets throw in Pacific because if nothing else they are entertaining.

Oh P…I remember when I used to get so f-ing amped for roadies at Corvallis, Tempe, the LA Sports Arena, and Pullman…getting splits on the road were musts when Braun/Monty/Cuonzo had them in the tournament conversation.

I remember traveling to roadies for Cal basketball. Imagine that.

Almost at the spread already

Expand full comment

There must have been a problem getting money on UCLA, hence the spread of only Bruins -25, which seemed quite low when I looked it up. As it turns out Bears +35 would have been a push. That's an improvement, Cal +36 was a bad beat the other night.

If you had Cal +36 you lost narrowly but that wouldn’t have been a bad beat

Cal is employing the 3 stooges right now:

Knowlton, Fox, and Wilcox. It’s the holy trinity of suck and white privilege.

Mark Fox, should never be allowed to coach basketball at any level ever again. Unless you’re an NBA team trying to secure a lottery pick, he should never be allowed around a basketball gym in this country.

If you go back and read the comments, plenty of people were stunned and displeased that Knowlton not only extended Wilcox, but that he handed him basically a fully guaranteed contract as well.

Just a baffling turn of events for a likely career coordinator.

Nah, revisionist history. The rather sizable crowd that was, and remains, skeptical of Justin Wilcox as a Head Coach, was never proud that we kept a coach that Oregon…that’s just stinkin thinkin.

If anything, we were puzzled by the fact that Oregon would want an HC that can’t win on the road and was 10 games below .500 in Conference. To this day, Oregon’s interest still does not make a whole lot of sense and very well may have been mostly an agent’s ploy.

Glad to see Mark Fox has turned around the offense and is capable of change.

Down 16-2 to lvl off the game. Not looking good for the Bears.

At least Bill Walton is on the call.

No offense to the team but I think there may be a slight talent gap.

Oh boy, this is going to be ugly. I predict a Cal loss of at least 30 points.

HOW DID CAL CAL MANAGE THAT ONE WIN THIS SEASON OVER STANFURD?

Cal will probably get at least 24 since there will be some garbage time. Granted, UCLA is looking for a 1 seed so still has a reason to maintain a big point differential after the game is salted away.

32 (2nd worst) is feasible.

Makes sense given the 2 transfers already. Guess he can’t grad transfer then?

Not sure. I'd expect that he could though doubt he's on track to achieve that until after next season at least.
