Gueye outhustling just about everyone who has guarded him....i did label him an athletic freak

Fox is pissed at Okafor based on how quick LT came back in

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

His man beat him back for a flush off his miss…that can’t happen.

leading scorer for WSU TJ Bamba ruled out immediately.....there goes my preview

Mark Fox remains garbage.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Just a parade of clanks for Cal but I like the aggressiveness.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Until that garbage possession after the timeout.

I like the aggressiveness of ND on those last 2 plays. Missed the second one badly, but we all knew he was raw. Work on those jumpers and low post moves this off-season.

It always puzzled me that Fox did not devote any recruiting resources to low post scorers. Lars and ND are literally his only bigs to speak of…in 4 years…that’s roster mismanagement.

Considering how hot they’ve been shooting, Cal +13 is actually pretty enticing…

Then again, you’re kinda waiting for the clock to strike midnight and they all turn back into a pumpkin.

Good litmus test for Fox tonight…can they play competent basketball on the road in a winnable game?

Need to hire Kyle Smith just so we can get a jump recruiting his kid. Shades of a young Sean Miller on Carson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8LYSSwaRWE

Ya, you can’t shoot 60% forever…

coyote32's avatar

Wait, so we aren’t going to shoot 70% from the field for the rest of the year?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Makes things a little tougher when Fox has zero answers for the adjustments opposing HC’s make…

coyote32's avatar

In fairness, I’m not sure he had any answers before they start making adjustments either. Neither the coaching nor the talent on this team is Power 5 level. The kids play hard and I wish them all the best, but Fox needs to go and we need somebody who can bring in competitive talent (and then, gasp, coach it competently).

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

That’s fair, though I remain convinced that a better offensive coach could win with this team. Fox is just not the guy / his offenses have ALWAYS been average or below…the scheme is 1950’s-Indiana High School basketball-esque.

Shaka Smart would have this team .500.

coyote32's avatar

I think you see something I don’t. But agreed that Fox is awful.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I see a long, quick and athletic team that goes a legit 10-deep and has shown the potential to shoot 60% from the floor on a given night against a decent team.

Kuany, Askew, Alajiki, Newell and now Clayton can all hit the 3…Roberson and Bowser can hit an open one themselves.

The only guy that has basically zero basketball skills is the clumsy 7-foot center who they inexplicably run the f-ing offense through because Fox is stubborn and knows no other way.

That is coaching, and we’ll never know, but this team should be playing faster, not the slow, methodical Mark Fox way...

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

What the hell lineup is this Fox? Anwanyu can’t guard a 6’11” guy…

A big needs to be on the floor. Dumb coaching.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Wazzu takes 14-12 at 10 minute mark…what happens in the next 5 mins?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

They continue to try to run the O thru their unskilled bigs.

What are you doing Fox.

Running the offense through thiemann is a big mistake

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Huge.

It’s a baffling choice, and shows a stunning lack of imagination…stubborn dinosaur.

Of larger consequence is that in 4 years Fox has recruited just 2 bigs…2. Cal has 37 guards/wings, but just 2 bigs, in 4 classes.

THAT’S more of the reason why he has to go.
