Umm, Nevada (UNR) is in Reno, not Las Vegas. Putting a Vegas pic to lead this article is akin to a Nevada fan site including a pic of the Hollywood sign to open an article about the game against Cal. Comes across as pretty silly...or just plain dumb.
Agree it is an important game, but all games are important. This Nevada QB is really good and projected to be a first round pick if not top 3 in the draft. In college ball, a great QB makes a lot of difference. So, tons of pressure on our D. Something tells me the D will be up for the challenge and wreak havoc all over the field with disguises and blitzes.
Yet again for Cal it will be up to the O and if they can score any points. Talk out of camp, which is always bullish is that Garbers has improved dramatically. Is the OL ready to go with possibly 3 new starters? We will find out who the starters are 2morrow morning when the depth chart is released. The OL has to perform and help out Garbers as much as possible. I'm bullish on the OL but realistic; a 60% turnover in the group means they likely haven't jelled...yet.
Obviously we can't have any issues on ST.
We will know by half time what type of team we have. Get the win (hopefully) and continue to improve over the next few weeks, which typically are the largest improvement gains in a season. But no more excuses about COVID are partial install of the offense. They've had a full camp to prepare.
Given Wilcox's history of completely taking the air out of the ball with any type of 2H lead, we probably won't know what kind of team we have until the final whistle.
We could look like gangbusters in 1H, and then predictably hibernate mid 3Q with a lead and let a pesky Wolfpack team with an elite QB hang around due to multiple 3 & outs...
In some ways, I feel like this opener is the most important game in the Wilcox era. If Cal wins, it is probably going to a bowl game and a successful season. Lose, and all bets are off the table. Wilcox has an 11-20 conference record, and Cal has not had a winning record in the Pac 12 since 2009.
Something tells me that Nevada is better than North Carolina was in 2017-18, and better than Mississippi was in 2017 and 2019. Hope that Cal gets a big and boisterous crowd that can make some noise to rattle the Nevada quarterback into making some mistakes. Anybody know if mask wearing is mandatory inside the stadium?
According to what I've seen from the Athletic Department communications is that face coverings are recommended inside the stadium. 5 days from the event and there is no indication that fans will be required to provide proof of vaccination, but that might change between now and then, which would be prudent, though I think it unlikely. I'll be wearing a mask for sure.

We know. Most of the legal sportsbooks in the country are in Las Vegas, so all of our sports betting and odds stories use a Las Vegas photo.
Ahh, I see; sorry for the snarky comment.
No need to apologize. It’s good feedback!
If Strong enters the game at anything less than 90% then UNR is ripe for the picking. As with every Wilcox game, expect it to go down to the very end.
