Cal Quarterback Sam Jackson V Reportedly Enters the Transfer Portal
Another quarterback joins the portalverse
Another Cal quarterback (Ben Finley being the first) is reportedly entering the transfer portal after just 3 starts and 5 games played in a single year at Berkeley.
The once TCU transfer Sam Jackson V — the week 1 starter for the Bears — is notably not listed as a graduate student according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Before ultimately losing his starting job to Fernando Mendoza, Jackson, with all the injuries and the QB battle going into the first half of the season despite being named the starter in week 1, accumulated 556 passing yards with 5 passing touchdowns in addition to 59 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. His athleticism and electricity with the ball in his hands was equally as exciting as it was frightening for Cal fans and defenses alike.
While he decided Berkeley ultimately was not the right place for him, we wish him nothing but luck whatever and wherever the future beholds.
While I won't blame him for transferring and I wish him best, I am starting to get annoyed by all the kids who have no patience and wants to transfer if they are not the starter. Maybe our new OC told SJV he is better off elsewhere, who knows, but he rather sit out next year than compete for a starting QB and a chance to see the field?
Not surprising given our situation and his. I wish him luck in his development. We do need to add some QBs, though, even if Nando is the presumed starter.
