I can’t believe that one of the top conferences wouldn’t add Stanford and Cal. If the big12 or big 10 added them they could set up two divisions. You could have an east and west division You would put all the pac 12 teams in the west division and preserve some of the rivalries. it would also cut down travel.

it's not the top conferences that count, its the two top conference funders -- Fox Sports and espn -- that matter. Neither think Cal & Stanford are accretive to the bottom line.

Good word: accretive

I think ESPN actually put it together considering the momentum that was there, but the conference members themselves want to protect an out into the B1G/SEC.

There's a chance that $C is putting the fly in our B!G ointment. Why? Because, like playing and losing to FCS schools, Cal is, every 10 years, or so, a spoiler for $C and that's just too humiliating and dicey for the prideful Tommy Trojan.

'SC is fine with playing us, but it's no secret that they wanted no other west coast schools to join the BiG bcos they wanted to control west coast recruiting. (They even opposed OU or UW, but they did not get a vote.)

Furd also has their number.

I secretly root for Furd against $C.

The real reason they left...

Tommy Trojan: "Everybody in the PAC12 hates us; they won't have us to kick around anymore."

Oregon State is probably a better analogy of this than Cal is re: ruining USC's dreams.

They do so more consistently than us. True.

Bi1G West: 6 former PAC 12 schools, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin for football. You could set up 3 divisions for all the other sports to cut down on all the traveling?

There could be a double UW game.

The conference already has a double NU game.

Expand full comment

Nope. One is NU and the other UN.

The Corporate overlords of TV Broadcasting care not about a word you say.
