Cal lands North Texas tight end Asher Alberding, Jermaine Terry to Oregon State
Tight end for tight end!
Cal landed another transfer in tight end Asher Alberding from North Texas. Alberding was primarily a blocking tight end with the Mean Green (two catches in three years), but should provide the Bears with much needed offensive protection in short yardage and goal-line situations.
The Golden Bears appear to be going all in on blocking-type tight ends! Cal transfer J.T. Byrne also was used primarily as a blocking tight end at Oregon State as well.
This gives the Bears two tight ends to replace the two tight ends they lost. Jermaine Terry, who entered the portal earlier this month, ended up at Oregon State himself, so the Bears and Beavers ended up swapping tight ends.
Terry thanked Cal after his commitment to Oregon State.
While Cal tight end Keleki Latu entered the portal in December, he has not committed yet, so the option for him to return is still open. At the moment, Elijah Mojarro appears to be tight end #1 in Strawberry Canyon.
Welcome to the Bears Asher!
