Cal transfer portal offers include Nebraska QB Chubba Purdy
Who are the players the California Golden Bears are targeting via the portal for 2024?
Here is a look at some recent targets for the California Golden Bears in the transfer portal.
Cal offered Chubba Purdy, the brother of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Chubba was at Nebraska this past season, appearing four times, passing for 382 yards, throwing two touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Bears could use some quarterback depth behind Fernando Mendoza and Chandler Rogers, and Purdy would be a great third option to push both in camp. Offers have also come in from North Texas and TCU.
Idaho linebacker Xe’ree Alexander
In the Big Sky, Alexander earned first-team freshman All-America honors last season from Phil Steele. Alexander tallied 75 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 13 games last season. Perhaps new Idaho transfer Marcus Harris can put in a good word.
Major offers have poured in, including Nebraska, Washington, Washington State and Oregon State.
Yale defensive tackle Clay Patterson
Other offers included North Texas, Western Kentucky and UNLV. Patterson put up 40 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in 2023. His big season was 2021, when he put up 44 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks.
Hawaii offensive tackle Joshua Atkins
Atkins transferred from Houston to Hawaii, and appeared in 13 games. Offers also came from ASU, North Texas and UTSA.
Uncertain/concerned about what may be coming for the 3 bears walking toward a bright light on the other side of the portal. Appreciate their bravery, and hoping it works out well.
Preston. Chubba's birth name is Preston.
He played at our new $C (Florida State) and Nebraska but has 2 seasons of eligibility left. Not sure what the NCAA will do about the double transfer rule for next year so he may need to sit?
Fingers crossed that the portal is at least as kind as it is cruel.
