Cal vs. UC Davis Insta-Recap & Rate the Game: Golden Bears Start the Season with a Win
Cal keeps its perfect record against UC Davis
The California Golden Bears (1-0) opened the 2022 college football season with a 34-13 win against the UC Davis Aggies (0-1).
The victory Saturday is California's 11th against its northern California sister university. The Golden Bears have not lost a single game in the series.
All eyes were on quarterback Jack Plummer, a transfer from Purdue who played his first game, who felt the first-game jitters early on.
The quarterback ended the afternoon with 268 passing yards and three touchdowns thrown, despite a poor first quarter, which included two three-and-out drives that allowed UC Davis to score first and an unlucky interception.
Plummer's fortune turned around in the second quarter, where he threw two touchdowns, including one to true freshman running back Jaydn Ott.
Ott was a workhorse for the Golden Bears against the Aggies. In his first game, he put up 104 rushing yards on 17 rush attempts and pulled in 26 receiving yards on two touches.

That was fun, the ugly first quarter notwithstanding. Plummer looked solid and Ott was terrific. Defense bent but didn't break. Attendance was as expected. Glad I was in the shade. Feeling hopeful (I know, dangerous for a Cal fan to do).
I wasn't super pretty, but there were some bright spots. We have big play capability but our O-Line is still a project. I just don't see our guys playing nasty and knocking the opponent around until the whistle. Pass pro was markedly better, but we need to be even better. I will say that a good running back makes the O-Line look good and Jayden Ott is our starter from here on out, IMHO. I'd like to see Ashton Hayes get coached up and play in his four games as well so we can see his abilities and his speed. Moore was disappointing; and I'm hoping he just had an off day or had to come out injured, because he has worked so hard to earn the starting job. Receivers looked good. D-Line had good moments but we need someone who can get the the opposing QB. Linebackers played well and DB's looked good. Pick 6 was a game changer. What is clear is when Ott is is in the game, we are a different team. Was happy with Plummer. His fast read passing game is much better than Garbers, but then this was the first game against Davis with a better O-Line (I think).
