The California Golden Bears are up 17-7 against the UC Davis Aggies at halftime in the 2022 college football season opener. However, it hasn't been as easy for the Golden Bears as the two-score lead might indicate.
UC Davis scored first this afternoon, moving the ball easily as the home team suffered from first-game anxiety.
California, which had 10 players start their first game for the Golden Bears, got off to a slow start. The home team ended the first quarter with negative one net total yards to UC Davis' 91.
Quarterback Jack Plummer, playing his first game for California after having played four seasons at Purdue, struggled in his debut game as a Golden Bear. He could not complete a single pass in the first quarter and threw an unlucky interception in the third offensive drive.
Fortunately for Cal fans, Plummer connected with wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter, completing a three-yard pass with about 9 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Before halftime, the quarterback also found true freshman running back Jaydn Ott for an eight-yard pass for his second passing score.
Ott has been having a field day. In addition to the pass brought into the end zone, the running back has 63 rushing yards on 12 touches.

I’m liking this new offensive strategy.
Instead of lame runs and punts with the lead, it seems we’re going for the kill shot

Plummer is better than I thought.
Plummer is better at the mid level throws than the short ones
The announcers are right. Cal is producing more explosive plays than in prior few years.
