The California Golden Bears are up 17-7 against the UC Davis Aggies at halftime in the 2022 college football season opener. However, it hasn't been as easy for the Golden Bears as the two-score lead might indicate.
UC Davis scored first this afternoon, moving the ball easily as the home team suffered from first-game anxiety.
California, which had 10 players start their first game for the Golden Bears, got off to a slow start. The home team ended the first quarter with negative one net total yards to UC Davis' 91.
Quarterback Jack Plummer, playing his first game for California after having played four seasons at Purdue, struggled in his debut game as a Golden Bear. He could not complete a single pass in the first quarter and threw an unlucky interception in the third offensive drive.
Fortunately for Cal fans, Plummer connected with wide receiver Jeremiah Hunter, completing a three-yard pass with about 9 minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Before halftime, the quarterback also found true freshman running back Jaydn Ott for an eight-yard pass for his second passing score.
Ott has been having a field day. In addition to the pass brought into the end zone, the running back has 63 rushing yards on 12 touches.

If you don't have TV subscription then I guess you can just join for the chat. I watched the game on main TV and joined for the chat only. I did login thru COX but had it muted.
The worst part is the downward pull this oregon game will have on the pac-12 rest of the season. Ore will beat everyone but Utah, and that just wont look good. Then UGA plays its annual cupcake FCS school who will score 13 points and we'll hear it all again.
Florida fumbles on their first drive, Utah drives down the limited field and scores on their opening drive 7-0 Utes
It started out terrible but ended comfortably
Cardiac Cal with emergency help just in time.

Nice, solid win.
People will say it’s FCS UC Davis, but they’re a fcs playoff team last 2 years and with a proven Coach.
I’ll take it and move on
Hear, hear. They are no easy win and this year they are stacked with talent.
They didn’t let Kai throw…
34-13 Final
Is Moore going to transfer after today?
Free Kai! Let him pass
Is Cal going to cover?

I feel bad for the bettors that got Cal -21

Thanks. Given that the deadline was just before this season, I figured they'd be leaving now. LOL.I have mixed feelings about them going.
Where are the students?
Studying? Pah!
Man... even Tightwad looks pretty pathetic.
Dunno, I saw a couple cold adult beverages that looked tasty and I'm sure there is more entertainment up there besides that.
Speaking of "other entertainment," saw someone with Daisy Dukes on the sideline. ;)
No kidding. Just some fellow Boomers burning one.
TOUCHDOWN CAL! Plummer to Mavin Anderson (first career TD as well) from 14 yds out! 34-13 Cal 7 mins to go
I’m liking this new offensive strategy.
Instead of lame runs and punts with the lead, it seems we’re going for the kill shot
Sweet
Plummer is better than I thought.
Plummer is better at the mid level throws than the short ones
The announcers are right. Cal is producing more explosive plays than in prior few years.
Laser from Plummer over the top to Monroe Young
seems like Monroe Young has been at Cal forever
Time for that 8:56 drive and score
Ugh. Arm tackles.
Nice punt. STs still looking gooder.
Other scores: Arizona 38 SDSU 20 Late Q4
Georgia 49 Oregon 3 Final
UCLA 45 BSU 17 Final
USC 7 Rice 7 Q2
We’re going to lose to zona again aren’t we…

Wow, it doesn't show from what I see on TV.
Just saw the most ridiculous offensive PI called defensive PI in the $C-rice game
Ulonzo Gilliam rolled up on, limping on sideline
No targeting call on us?
shouldn't be. he was stationary and RB ran into him
Okay, makes sense. Just wondered and am relieved, given all the other penalties.
You can see those UC Davis screens coming from a mile away, and the D's still slow to react to them
Q4 27-13
Davis O Line iscc be abusing our guys,
rain and thunder suddenly ended in Irvine.
Well, that drive was a disappointment. But giving Brooks some touches might pay off later, right?
DeCarlos Brooks get room out of the endzone and a first down
Welp can’t watch without braving the high seas. Following on espn.com
Wilcox sure knows how to coach DBs
the QB can't believe it

You’re the only one who uses the f-word as if it’s polite and acceptable. Why not set a better example? Please?
JEREMIAH EARBY
McCallan Castles left Cal to play for Davis??
Yup
what a terrible decision
he must have been drunk
Wow... Oregon's getting absolutely wrecked. 49-3 at the moment.
The worst part is the downward pull this oregon game will have on the pac-12 rest of the season. Ore will beat everyone but Utah, and that just wont look good. Then UGA plays its annual cupcake FCS school who will score 13 points and we'll hear it all again.
Oregon ranked #11 because they’re Oregon. Too high
Thanks, I was recording it...
no need now.
Schadenfreude from me ;(
