Syracuse are between California -8 and California -9.5, according to data independently collected and reviewed by Write for California. The California -8 line implies California is about an eight-point favorite against Syracuse.
According to Vegas Insider, which collects sportsbooks’ offered odds and betting lines, Cal v. Syracuse opened earlier this week at California -7.
As of Thursday morning, many sportsbooks offer totals for “over-or-under” total score bets between 55.5 and 56.5 points, according to data collected and reviewed by Write for California. Bookmakers and sportsbooks set total-point lines as an estimate for the combined score of a game. Bettors then place wagers on whether the sum of the actual number of points scored will be under or over the total set.
The California -8 and 55.5-point total imply that the Cal v. Syracuse final score will be about 32-24 in Cal’s favor.
“Moneyline” bets pay based on the final game results regardless of the margin of victory or points “spread” handicap set by sportsbooks.
As of Thursday morning, the Cal v. Syracuse moneyline is between California -295 and California -350 and Syracuse +235 and Syracuse +270, according to lines and odds seen by Write for California.
A moneyline bet at Cal’s most favorable moneyline of California -295 requires a $295 bet to win $100 after a Cal victory. In contrast, a moneyline bet at Syracuse’s most favorable moneyline of Syracuse +270 pays a $270 profit on a $100 wager if Syracuse wins.
The Cal v. Syracuse moneyline opened at about California -265 and Syracuse +215 earlier this week, per Vegas Insider’s data.

The California Golden Bears are 6-3 against the spread in the 2024 college football season, while Syracuse is 4-5 when the point handicap is considered.

Cal and Syracuse have met two times previously in a home-and-away series in 1967 and 1968. The home team prevailed in each contest: Cal beat Syracuse 43-0 on Oct. 26, 1968, and the Orange defeated the Golden Bears 20-14 on Oct. 21, 1967.
According to Vegas Insider’s analysis, the slight majority (51%) of all bets on Cal v. Syracuse with the point handicap have been on the California Golden Bears. Three out of five total-score bets have been on the “over,” and 99% of all moneyline bets are on Cal.
