Mason Starling is a gamer. Even in the Colorado game he was big.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

He looks the part of a guy that will play on Sundays.

TD_24's avatar

That was a depressing half of football. At least Colorado had a crowd behind them when making plays. It just feels like a glorified cemetery out there.

GoldenSD81's avatar

We should rename Memorial to the Mausoleum.

the beer's avatar

The Nauseouleum works too.

"These mother fuckers." Money Lynch, 2022 October 22

OldSoCalBear's avatar

I prefer this brand of misery because Rick fights are done in 3 hours. Sonny’s misery games went 4-1/2

Justbear's avatar

It did provide entertainment too though. Kenny Lawler was so fun to watch.

GB III's avatar

We don’t have anything to cheer about in these rock fights. It’s dull. College football should be more exciting.

WilderThanGene's avatar

as someone watching on the east coast, I abide

GB III's avatar

It is. That’s what Cal football has become. And frankly, that’s why we need a change at the top. There is no real hope anymore. Hope = some excitement.

GB III's avatar

Yeah, I agree. But I am tired of”congratulating the defense”. I hate being an “Iowa style team”. I miss the run and shoot with Dykes. This is no fun to watch.

chowder's avatar

I hated the run and shoot games stylistically. They were so boring and took forever.

Justbear's avatar

I think the backup QB and the previous HC are the most popular people during down years.

GB III's avatar

Maybe. But ask yourself, “Do you enjoy this tonight?”

Justbear's avatar

I don't. That why I'm saying at least with Dykes there was something fun to watch.

chowder's avatar

I don't know about you, but I didn't really enjoy the Dykes years that much. It felt so futile when the defense couldn't stop wet toilet paper.

WilderThanGene's avatar

It wasnt fun watching our defensive players whiffing on tackles like blooper reels, or having a quarterback playing safety and some receivers playing defensive back. Or having people think your players are a Division 2 team because they're so small, in their funny youtube videos.

It's ok for neither to be fun..

GB III's avatar

So what do we have now. We are all hanging in to hopefully witness a series of field goals and a timely turnover at the end of the game.

It was so much more fun to watch Texas play OSU or TCU play KState today.

Last week it was great to watch USC and Utah. Or Tennessee / Alabama.

We get nothing like it.

WilderThanGene's avatar

What we have now sucks. What we had then sucked. I'm not sure what your point is.

TD_24's avatar

Yours truly will be in person tonight, keep track of updates as they happen here: https://twitter.com/WriteForCalLive

GoldenSD81's avatar

Godspeed and good luck!

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Taking one for the W4C team, eh?

TD_24's avatar

so far...well yes

KetamineCal's avatar

Pac-12 After Dark against Washington is prime sicko territory. So I'm (stupidly) heading to the stadium rooting for both Cal and chaos.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

I regret that I can only like this post once

Oski Disciple's avatar

Maybe see you there. I'll be wearing blue and gold.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Nice! This means attendance will be no less than 2.

KetamineCal's avatar

I'll be wearing a paper bag on my head.

TD_24's avatar

The vibes are not good right now

GoldenSD81's avatar

Our offense produced a functional and FBS drive!

Rugbear's avatar

Sessions is getting beat like a drum. I could have coached him up by now. It's unbelievable that a guy with Sessions athletic ability still doesn't know how to pass block.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I can’t wait for the moment when our OL has 3 guys standing around while the other 2 block each other during a play.

Rugbear's avatar

Plummer can't get it done. He killed that drive by missing a kindergarten throw on the first play. He's gotta go. Milner can't be this bad.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Nope. I'd like to see Millner too.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

That's what we figured about the UCLA transfer QB, Modster? It turned out that he was throwing hot lava that the receivers could not catch. On paper, he seemed that he should be good, but...

GoldenHairs's avatar

I'm back for more punishment

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

You’re a better man than I am, Gunga din…

Archon79's avatar

Terrible holding call by ref but ill take it

chuss's avatar

Holy crap. A TD?!?! I’m gonna take a shot of whiskey.

Justbear's avatar

Did Marshawn give a half time speech to the coaches?

GB III's avatar

If he did, then let’s hire him. Use the NIL money for him

OldSoCalBear's avatar

I have a bad case of Penix envy

GoldenSD81's avatar

It’s all about the (throwing) motion in the ocean.

Daddy's avatar

2nd half game plan. Hold them to one field goal. Cal gets a field goal. Then out of no where Weaver comes in for the pick six to seal the only touchdown for the game. Cal wins 10 to 9.

OC Bear's avatar

Better yet. Marshawn takes a cart and rides by the U-dub bench. Asks Penix if he'd like to ride shotgun with a Beast. Drives cart (with Penix in it) out of the stadium....

GB III's avatar

That would be exciting!

GB III's avatar

He runs out of the stands! I wish…

AirBear2015's avatar

saw a funny tweet online saying that Cal Football is the worst thing since Cal Basketball! HAH

GoldenSD81's avatar

Transfer portal is going to be full of Cal players. I see a coaching staff that has lost this team. They know this staff is bad and has no answers.

JeriAnn May's avatar

I am kitty-sitting, so might join in the live game chat...really hoping this game is not a cat-astrophe! 🤣🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🤣 #GoBears 💙🐻💛🏈💛🪓💙

KetamineCal's avatar

Sounds like your evening plans feline to place.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Me? I will be catatonic and immunized against Cardiac Cal events.

WilderThanGene's avatar

you're stressin meowt. try to stay pawsitive.

GoldenSD81's avatar

A win tonight against the dogs would be purrfect.

TD_24's avatar

Welp that's not the result we wanted.

TD_24's avatar

Well that'll about do it

TD_24's avatar

Surely this offense cant be worse this half right? Right?

OC Bear's avatar

the only thing worse than a scoreless offense is an O that results in a safety.

SadAndColdNortheastBear's avatar

When Plummer starts playing well, everyone else shits the bed

BearlyThere's avatar

My son is trying to stay positive. “At least they’re dropping balls!”

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Wow, the turning of the Rugbear?

Honestly, I wish you were coaching our O Line.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Are his protections too complicated? Failure of execution?

Rugbear's avatar

Horrible technique. He can't coach these guys up.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Defense showing some grit, but they can’t hold back this dam forever

Justbear's avatar

Defense has to start scoring. And stay on the field forever

Daddy's avatar

Yeah they need to start pulling the offense’s weight.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Wilcox isn’t taking out Plummer. He is too loyal.

OC Bear's avatar

and who wants to watch total suck?

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Well, it's all about context.;)

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I've heard some people say put Jack Plummer behind a better O-line and he lights it up.

I'm not seeing it...at all.

Rugbear's avatar

He has to complete the easy passes when there is no pressure...he can't even do that. He's the glass man; scared shitless of getting hit. It's flipping football. He needs to toughen up.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I agree - there are gimme's out there - he's just missing them.

Rugbear's avatar

Marshawn interview: priceless!!

Rugbear's avatar

I'll tell you what I see tonight: a complete lack of physicality. We arm tackle on defense and we arm block on offense. Fugly.

Justbear's avatar

Why is Washington WR open on every play

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

They've got a great system and DeBoer has the perfect QB for it.

GoldenSD81's avatar

They are magicians, I don’t know how they do it.

HaasBear's avatar

This team is a disaster. Everyone on the offensive staff should be fired immediately. The longer we wait the more transfers we’ll endure.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Hoping this O returns intact is wishful thinking, I fear.

Given the proliferation of the NIL and the transfer portal, it would be a wonderful surprise to get everyone back. Unfortunately, we're likely looking at another year of Jack Plummer, and I think many of us have seen enough.

AirBear2015's avatar

Isn't Plummer a one year rental as a grad transfer?

Bluehenbear's avatar

I say we do an onside kick if we score cuz defense not gonna get us an extra

Possession

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

Too much time. I think we play it straight, been close to stops, at least better chances than onside

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

But getting it in here is a big if

HaasBear's avatar

Session is nothing more than a slight inconvenience for the defensive end.

HaasBear's avatar

Gosh imagine if we had cool play designs.

WilderThanGene's avatar

The longer the refs talk, the more rest for our defensive line

calpaladin's avatar

Did they fire Musgrave at the half or lock him up in a closet?

GB III's avatar

Mashawn put him in the golf cart and drove him out of the stadium!

OC Bear's avatar

Excellent movement by both Plummer and receiver and great throw on the run.

Rugbear's avatar

Kudos to Jack. He didn't get happy feet.

Archon79's avatar

He would have to be made of steel to not have happy feet with this line.

GB III's avatar

I am tired of watching rock fight games! I watched Sonny’s team play well today. There was offense and scoring and a victory. I am sick of this brand of football.

Archon79's avatar

Yeah I used to hate Sonnyball more but not anymore.

This is worse

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

At least Sonny ball was exciting and frustrating.

This is just boring and frustrating. Bad combination.

Bowlesman 80's avatar

Welp.

There was precious little defense with Sonny, whos teams really helped justify the tag "Cardiac Cal" for us fans. The over and unders were typically over 60. We'd score, but would, in turn, dread the answering scores going through the porous defense. Honestly, If WIlcox could a mildly above-average offense and keep up this defense, we'd be contenders every season. It may be ugly, were we to have this mildly above-average offense, but sweetened by victory.

JJ Arrington highlights, for your halftime viewing pleasure

GoldenSD81's avatar

Back when we had a functional offense and defense. What a beautiful thing.

Rugbear's avatar

Why is JJ Arrington never mentioned? He actually might have the best single season of any CAL running back.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

One of the bigger injustices of all-time...how many other Power-5 2,000 yard rushers on a 10-win team weren't even invited to NYC for the Heisman?

GoldenSD81's avatar

I agree and I think it is because he didn’t have as prolific an NFL career or as many memorable plays and moments while at Cal.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Overshadowed by Aaron Rodgers too

Bowlesman 80's avatar

My Marshawn Lynch interview takeaways:

1. Drops an "F" bomb

2. He calls out the lack of people in the stands.

3. He's gonna' jack another cart.

FromCtoShining(Blue)C's avatar

Well, it was worth watching this shitshow just for the Marshawn interview. Not sure there'll be much else to watch.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Gotta see if he drives the cart again

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I f-ing love Marshawn Lynch.

GoldenHairs's avatar

Marshawn interview is helping

OC Bear's avatar

Marshawn with the f-bomb during the interview. espn gonna be in trouble for no delay

Go drive a cart! (better than watching a Musgrave offense.)

OC Bear's avatar

Surprised Ott has not yet entered the Portal.

chuss's avatar

Where does everyone think he’ll go to?

OC Bear's avatar

he's from SoCal, so the natural inclination would be to take jump on that (future) BiG NIL money.

AndDriveDriveDrive's avatar

Our O-line is so incredibly bad
