One mystery to me: Why didn’t Cal blitz early and often? ND’s QB was visibly nervous and twitchy.

We just gave him the time to get comfortable to at least start making the short throws and not bobble the snap

Justbear's avatar

Do we ever? Except that last drive last week.

Good, close game with two teams that have issues. Cal hung in there on a hot, humid day to a sold out crowd, a still talented ND team (minus the QB) and in their house.

Very proud of the Cal players today.

Shout out to all the Coaches. I saw them constantly engage with the players every step of the way.

Plummer seemed a bit hyped with his overthrows. That could have changed the game if he was a little more on target.

Offensive line is what it is this year.

We just need to scheme around that weakness.

Crossing my fingers for improvement the rest of the way.

Bearbacker1's avatar

Why wasn't it challenged???

goldenone's avatar

I do think we'll make a bowl game and erase the demons of the two COVID seasons. Need to retrofit the O-line for the rest of the season. If we can do that we should be OK next season as well though there will be a new QB.

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

The pac is much improved. We might make a bowl but color me dubious.

Bearbacker1's avatar

Nice to the offensive play calling losing the game for us. It doesn't take a genius to see Plummer can't throw a long ball. Is Musgrave a moron? This is as bad as Garbers...Plummer not even throwing spirals...real problem but the asinine weak obvious playcalling cost us the game. Given Wilcox took forever to get rid of Baldwin, we may be in for a long couple of seasons.

CalLSURoseBowl's avatar

Off topic, but Mike Leach just went for 4th down inside his own 25 and got it with a run play

Justbear's avatar

I haven't checked but he probably has better offense than Cal.

Usual Cal ups and downs, but overall I enjoyed the game and enjoyed seeing it on a big stage. Wish I was there! While I have beef with the BS Cal penalties that lead to ND points, overall it was a good time. I felt it had a lot of Big Game shenanigans and energy. Let's hope this pumps us up for the rest of the season.

O.Overall's avatar

That offsides was such BS!

But we need better O line play if we want to beat good teams on the road

GoldenSD81's avatar

That offsides was BS, the targeting call was legit.

goldenone's avatar

Amazing finish to the game. So close to one for the ages.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Assuming we don’t make a bowl game, if we bring Wilcox back it needs to be under s Frost type restructured contact where Wilcox must reboot his offensive staff and his buyout drops by 50% on October 1

There's a much bigger challenge/problem with the reshuffling of the major conferences; What's left of the Pac 12 is not going to be high enough profile for the elite 4 and 5 star athletes; Cal has already had a couple of decommits since the announcement of SC and Ucla leaving.

Because I don’t see any improvement on offense.

I feel like we have been saying that since the first season under Wilcox. It is the same average to below average offense from one game to the next.

The post game field reporter “interview” - can the ND Network reporter be any more obsequious. Flip to Oregon / BYU. And cry in my beer…..

Justbear's avatar

I didn't expect a win so I'm not that frustrated. They gave us so many chances at the end.

Offsides call was really frustrating though.

WilderThanGene's avatar

Yeah before the game I said I'd be satisfied if cal was able to take it down to the wire, so I can't complain. Or can I? Yeah, why not.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I’m happy it was close. I am just frustrated with Plummers passing today and the OL.

Bowlesman80's avatar

Go Bears! |

Fuck Leprechauns!

Like the other "Blue Blood" schools, it looks clear that dirty play and favors make they teams win.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Where are the TEs? Probably too busy trying to help block

Clbear's avatar

Well, we brought Cardiac Cal to ND.

Clbear's avatar

I'm really proud of the team for staying in the fight to the literal end.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Sure, against a 4-8 ND team starting their backup QB. Showed a lot of growth by Wilcox and the program

Clbear's avatar

I said I am proud of the team for fighting to the end and I stand by that. Whatever the coaches do or the program does, it has nothing to do with the boys who did not give up.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Good point, you’re correct. They did fight hard and never gave up.

CalLSURoseBowl's avatar

He's going to feel that ball for years.

chuss's avatar

Alright if! Tie game. Great stuff Bears. Proud of them.

BearlyThere's avatar

That was SO close.

Closer than I feared it would be.

AirBear2015's avatar

We're ready for Arizona now boys!

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yep. I’m ready for the inevitable crazy loss to Arizona and then WSUs defense completely shutting down our offense again

GoldenSD81's avatar

History has shown Arizona doesn’t have any issue being up for Cal or overlooking us.

Trilljester's avatar

What an incredibly frustrating loss.

GoldenSD81's avatar

One last play, one more time for ND to get a sack

Trilljester's avatar

Gonna get the ball back but they have to take a shot at the endzone now.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Down by contact. When does the clock start again?

GoldenSD81's avatar

Plummer and our offensive ineptness is keeping this drive alive

GoldenSD81's avatar

He looked down but that was a dumb play by Plummer

coyote32's avatar

Un-f-ing believable.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Gotta go end zone but oline can’t give time

CalLSURoseBowl's avatar

That targeting might have blown the spread for the early ND money.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Dick. Lb keeping ott from gettting up

Bowlesman80's avatar

Because Cal.

Fun Fact: Just how many decommits did we have?

3 Stars + 1-2 4 Stars does not equal mostly five star squads.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Nice slant, pass, catch and YAC

Bluehenbear's avatar

Here’s your gift bears. Cash it in

coyote32's avatar

Hoping for PI l’s here

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Gives us time for a couple more sacks

GoldenSD81's avatar

That was Plummer best pass in sometime

WilderThanGene's avatar

Wow, so this targeting call goes to show there is a reason head coaches carry on against refs on bad calls early in the game. It basically sets up a "make up" call. Not that this is what this was.. but gotta think that's part of the coach's strategy.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

By my count Plummer has thrown 10 straight incompletions

Bongo Bear's avatar

When we said we wanted a consistent QB, this isn't what we meant

Maestro's avatar

sums things up pretty well there

GoldenSD81's avatar

We better get the ball back with this penalty

Big brain move by jack, not worth giving away tape
