Tarps off ahead of the Battle for California™️

jakewebs's avatar

The program has been building up to this moment for years, and now it is our turn. Grab as many Golden Bears as you can and drag them to the game if need be! After they took down the tarps I've got another 7-9 on the way. And BE LOUD!

Hey folks, is there a football Pick'em set up yet?

There’s a lot riding on the UCLA game. Cal has to show huge improvement on both sides of the line and it’s definitely a must win game. Hopefully it will be a decisive win that sends a clear message that the Bears are not to be trifled with and that preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing. With an improved WR corps and what is shaping up to be a truly lethal running game, JKS should be in a position to tear apart UCLA’s defense. If the OL holds and the defense plays above what is expected, it has the potential of marking a real turning point in the Cal football program. To say this is an important game to send a message to the rest of the ACC is an understatement.

Huge game of course, but I wouldn't call it a must win. Must not lose badly.. but a coin flip loss against an equally reinvigorated UCLA team with their good new coach and quality players he also brought in (including JMU players that are already developed in his system) isn't the end of the world... Then UNLV and/or Clemson become must wins after that..

In addition to our OL and Defensive front 7 still being a question mark, so is the play calling and in game adjustments from first time HC, OC, and DC!

Kinda scary how high expectations have gotten in the last month.

agreed, and last I checked UCLA was a 1-2 point favorite

With you on the expectations at a scary level

I watched this play out in real time on X. It felt like a very short time between the Calgorithm calling for the tarps to come down and yesterday’s glorious video of Tosh doing the deed. To me it says two things…First, The Calgorithm is an incredibly cool and powerful community of our friends and fellow travelers…. And second, the current football leadership gets it. Another fabulous injection of Cal spirit to keep us psyched! Go Bears forever baby!

The video is hilarious, love it, thank you!

Now, hope BART runs extra trains and runs them long after midnight. How does the #Calgorithm get that to happen?

Not sure how late you want, but should be open with plenty of time for anybody to walk from Memorial to Downtown BART after the game. Cal should be on it. There was much cooperation for Game Day.

Because of mobility issues, we take the ADA buss from Haas to DT Berkeley. ADA bus can’t leave until Band does. Due to traffic on Bancroft, usually get to BART around midnight-12:15 a.m. Would be nice if BART guaranteed trains until 1:00a.m., both to SF & Richmond. Since it’s a 3-day weekend, I expect there will be a lot of fans from out of town.

BTW, I am assuming the game ends around 10:30-11:00 pm, with no OT, excessive time outs for commercials or (sigh) official reviews. Somehow 60 football minutes is closer to 200 of real minutes. 😁

I think you can feel pretty confident about it, but if you are unsure you can contact Henry Symons (BART) + Josh Hummel (Cal Athletics)

CC: Amanda Cruz (BART), Sarah Hantke (Cal Event Management), Beth Tafolla-Voetsch (Cal External Relations).

And maybe have a backup plan. Good luck on your quest to Memorial!

Back up plan is rideshare from DT to Del Norte & keeping Hubs from stressing out! 😜

Tarp sections are still lookin empty, but everything else is looking close to sold out.

At $45 per seat I bet they fill up closer to game day…

The tarps were a symptom not a cause. I see this as the natural progression of the return to relevance of Cal football. Crisis ---> Lyons --> Rivera --> Tosh --> High football standards --> Recruits --> Culture --> Expectations and Tosh gets on the socials and says EVERYBODY needs to get to Memorial on Sep 5. Now EVERYBODY will be at Memorial on Sep 5. There was no room left for tarps.

Good leadership knows how to manipulate symbols for effect. The tarps were that symbol.

Tightwad Hill is already sold out.
