Sad that there's multiple comments that think going for 2 was the wrong move. It's a clear move to go for 2 in that situation, especially if you're the underdog and more like than not to lose in an OT situation.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

The sheet these HC sheeps all follow says go for 1 in that situation.

Glad they got it, and in the end it doesn’t really matter, but it was hardly the right move.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I suppose the question is why go for 2 on the penultimate TD. Going for 2 after potentially recovering the onside kick and scoring a TD seems like the more conventional play there.

Justbear's avatar

I think if we go for two first, then if we fail to convert, we still have another chance to go for two and at least tie the game after second TD.

If you kick PAT and then go for two to win the game after second TD, then if you fail you lose.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Yes but it is essentially the same thing. If you want to win you go for 2 at some point. No wrong or right answer in this situation, just preference. Do you prefer to put off going for 2 now or later. Are you a procrastinator or a masturbator? Perhaps both?

Kingpindonuts's avatar

No.... you go for it earlier so you know whether you need to go for 2 or not on the other TD.

goldenone's avatar

Well we almost broke the streak of losing to AP top ten team since 1951 on the road?

Calbears93's avatar

Can we ever win a close game? Seems decision making at crucial moments always kills us…like the last minutes of the first half.

Justbear's avatar

All of our conference wins under Wilcox have been close games, no?

Calbears93's avatar

We never win the close games. Never come back to win the close ones.

Justbear's avatar

I think we've won quite a few games with interceptions.

GoldenSD81's avatar

We have won some conference games comfortably under Wilcox.

Arizona this year.

WSU in 2017.

Colorado in 2019.

I am sure I am missing a few.

Now, we have always won Pac12 games comfortably at home. I can’t think of comfortable road wins for Wilcox.

GoldenSD81's avatar

In year 6 Wilcox has went full circle with Cal and turned us into the Bear Raid.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I would argue the Bear Raid blocks better on WR screens...

Justbear's avatar

Is this the most we've scored under Wilcox in a loss?

GoldenBear88's avatar

Losing that game sucks but we looked good doing so. If we can play the same offense and better defense, we could win our last three. It's a big hill to climb but not impossible. Offensively Cal looked good (except for the interception before the half that was the difference maker in this game). Being 3-6 sucks but we didn't stop fighting. That gives me some hope.

Justbear's avatar

I can't tell if we played well or USC defense was terrible.

AndyPanda's avatar

Its #Pac12LongLongAfterDark. It is both impossible and foolhardy to draw conclusions.

GoldenSD81's avatar

USC defense isn’t very good. USC also rested their top 2 WRs and probably took us lightly. That said we took advantage of their lack of respect.

Archon79's avatar

Got a lot of problems with this team, Plummer ain’t one of them.

bearspot's avatar

He does seem to have come to terms with the deficiencies of the OL. Got the ball out more quickly overall. But a lot of air under some of those balls.

Justbear's avatar

Yes he is. He floats balls with deep safety playing CF.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

And on that exact play, he had a guy open underneath for a sure first down

Archon79's avatar

This might be the worst O line in college football, not sure how a pocket passer can succeed with that

angelcarverblues's avatar

Thank you Vegas for that very comfy line. I sleep a richer man.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I applaud this. Hopefully you hammered Flightline and rode Aidan O'brien's Europeans to great success the past couple of days at Keeneland!!

Bluehenbear's avatar

$Β’ should be concerned they let us back in this game.

Justbear's avatar

I say this is moral victory.

bearspot's avatar

I just can't. The kids played hard though. Gotta love that.

Archon79's avatar

I refuse to give moral victories in year 6

Justbear's avatar

I think this is the first time I ever called a loss a moral victory.

Rick Chen's avatar

And we haven't had those for a while, so I'll count it

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

If nothing else, it could hurt SC in the CFP eyes.

Justbear's avatar

I said I was already satisfied, but I really wished we could have won this game somehow.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Jimmy, I am sorry, I didn’t win the Powerball tonight so I cannot buy out Fox and Wilcox’s contract for you.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

No worries my friend...we'll find a way.

I hit the Breeder's Cup Sprint and a couple of Pick 3's today so we're on our way.

Brick by brick...we'll get there.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Until next year…in El Paso…where we will see the Sun Bowl rise.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Oh, be still my heart. We can dream, right...

Rise, rise....rise.

OC Bear's avatar

That'll do it - great OL blocking

GoldenSD81's avatar

I had a dream and now that dream is gone.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Got I hate that mesh play

Bluehenbear's avatar

Expecting nothing but these interminably long mesh plays

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Really like this broadcasting crew.

Pasch asks good questions.

Top notch crew.

OldSoCalBear's avatar

You don’t like Gilmore whining about β€˜82?

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

I wish that man shingles

OC Bear's avatar

Pasch is the straight man for Walton on b'ball. (Don't know how he puts up with Bill.)

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Nor do I. Talk about your drunk Uncle at Thanksgiving....JFC.

I do appreciate his allegiance to the Pac 12...he has grown on me...

OC Bear's avatar

my favorite BW line is: "truck stop conference" for the B12.

Bongo Bear's avatar

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like Bill Walton as a commentator

OldSoCalBear's avatar

They threw flag in case cal recovered it so they could give the ball to SC

Bluehenbear's avatar

SC would be stupid to do anything but pound the ball

Oski Disciple's avatar

That's okay, quick three and out.

Bongo Bear's avatar

This game has been way more interesting and entertaining than I thought it would be

Justbear's avatar

I'm already satisfied. Even if we lose, this was not a winnable game we lost unlike some other losses earlier this year

OldSoCalBear's avatar

Funny, I’m frustrated for the same reason. Play this way against notre dame, Colorado and maybe wsu and those are wins

Justbear's avatar

I was frustrated and mad after those games.

Now my expectations have lowered so I'm not mad about those previous games anymore.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

YES...

We're 5-3 with THIS effort.

Pisses me off!!!

Justbear's avatar

My expectations are low.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Agreed. I’m still not happy with Wilcox, this staff or the OL but at least it was much closer and entertaining than I thought it would be .

bearspot's avatar

sometimes that's all I ask

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

With THIS team, I'm really pleased.

Musgrave still has to go, but this is some fight.

And it's already doing damage to USC for them to be in a 1-score game v. Cal as a 22 point favorite.

GoldenSD81's avatar

Musgrave and Angus have to go. We also need to rework Wilcoxs buyout.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Faraudo article made it seem like the buyout gets larger as years go on.

Bluehenbear's avatar

Wilcox think we can win by getting 2 fg

GoldenSD81's avatar

If we had kicked the one before halftime he might be right.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

That's a huge decision.

Take the points...Oregon State pissed away a chance to win last night because of that.

Justbear's avatar

that was Patrick Mahomes play.

KetamineCal's avatar

I have no idea why we went for 2 but I'll take it.

GoldenSD81's avatar

I suppose the thought is if you make and recover the onside kick and score a TD you win or you just got for 2 again to tie it and send it to OT.

GoldenHairs's avatar

It’s more entertaining this way

Bluehenbear's avatar

Jesus. Cmon refs.

Cal band great

Justbear's avatar

what we are still going for two

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

This is baffling.

Analytics...so lame.

There's no reason to go for 2 now. Kick it and go for 2 if you get the ball back. This is awful.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Still a dumb play...but great!! GO BEARS.

bearspot's avatar

back of plummer's jersey has a lot of green πŸ˜•

Justbear's avatar

All we had to do was kick FG in 2nd quarter.

Oski Disciple's avatar

We're going to do it. We're really actually going to do it. We're going to beat the spread!

Bluehenbear's avatar

Got sC to use a timeout. Now kick cp

OC Bear's avatar

stupid idea to go for 2. Math is hard.

OC Bear's avatar

Pad Ott's stats in Garbage Time

HelloBowlesHall's avatar

The debacle at the end of the first half is looking really painful right about now.

Jimmy Chitwood's avatar

Anyone notice that Bill Musgrave looks 80, yet he's only 54?

GoldenSD81's avatar

I have always thought he looks older for his age. It’s as if he smokes 4 packs a day and day drinks.

Justbear's avatar

who were those two guys talking to Wilcox?

GoldenSD81's avatar

His β€œconsultants” that we hired for professional growth.
