This was beyond embarrassing. This was a unprecedented coaching disaster which honestly makes anyone question the competence and intelligence of our coaching staff. The defense did a decent job, but were exhausted out b/c of he offensive play .There were so many unbelievable bad plays called by the offensive, it made you wonder if Musgrave was trying to lose., ..Then again that might be giving him too much credit that he could actually execute a plan. ..It was obvious and scared playcalling, poor 3rd down playcalling, stupid playcalling (reverses). I mean, I just can't believe this is what Wilcox has put together after 5yrs. The goddamn chancellor and regents should be doing something about this...fire the AD to start.,then go down vthe line. We need new hungry talent... this level of mediocrity brings shame to our great university. It's sad for the kids, bc its not their fault.

I'VE LEARNED TO GO THROUGH LIFE EXPECTING THE WORST

WHILE HOPING FOR THE BEST. IF THE WORST HAPPENS THEN, OH WELL, I WAS EXPECTING THAT BUT, IF SOMTHING GOOD HAPPENS, THAT COULD BE A SPECIAL JOY BECAUSE ITS SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT I EXPECTED! CAL FOOTBALL IS HOW I LEARNED ALL THIS! IT PROBABLY WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME TO LEARN TO JUST WATCH THE GAME INSTEAD OF INTERNALIZING AND LIVING THE GAMES! JOE KAPP, 1958 "THE PLAY" CAL COACH. SAID, "THE BEAR NEVER DIES!" YEAH!! GO BEARS!! GERBEAR

How does a team that fired its head coach last year and turn around and hand the HC job to a guy that no one had heard of end up being this much better than Cal? And all this happening after their most dynamic player - DeLaura - bolts the team. The level of mediocrity we saw from this Wilcox led team was just stunning today.

Offensive scheme has a lot to do with it, plus the NIL...Wazzu gave a car, an apartment & a chunk of money to Cam Ward, who brought his HC as now OC and #1 WR with him and plays in a pass happy system.

Well look at you with the real answers!

Extremely predictable offense, bad O line play, mediocre QB play.

Welcome to Cal football

Bears are not as good as I wanted to think. WSU is pretty good.

Expand full comment

Questionable decision making aside, Cam Ward is as physically gifted a QB as there is in the Conference. He'll play on Sundays.

Expand full comment

And the Bears definitely did not get enough pressure on him. Disappointed in that.

Expand full comment

One time Ward was just walking around and then completed a pass. That was so embarrassing.

Yeah. When he went into the tent, he should have been done. It was stupid for him to go back out on the field after that. He is tough though.

Expand full comment

Well, that sucked and I was gone for most of the 2nd half. It looks like another 5-7 season unless we get an upset against an opponent that completely faceplants or has catastrophic injuries

Expand full comment

I had hope for our Bears before the game

Expand full comment

That was our mistake.

Expand full comment

I still have hopes. WHy? Because that's what we Cal fans do- hope this year will be different.

Expand full comment

It seems that Wilcox's Bears always win at least one that nobody expects them to win. Flip side is they usually lose one they are expected to win as well.

True and true. We broke the Arizona Curse, but will we lose to Colorado?

He threw a nice ball tho on the first completion.

Has our backup QB ever looked good under Wilcox.

Let's make him the first string QB so that he will no longer be a backup QB.

Wilcox backups never do.

Expand full comment

We won the turnover battle!

Expand full comment

This isn’t all on Musgrave but next year they need an RPO offensive coordinator to maximize Milner and Ott.

Expand full comment

We’ve put a bunch of running backs in the NFL. If we can’t keep Ott then we should resign ourselves to the Mountain West and I can officially stop caring about the program.

Expand full comment

We barely got Ott to begin with. He was a de-commit / re-commit. Whenever I see him making a play I wonder why he isnt wearing a flashy Oregon uniform

Expand full comment

Oh he will be soon enough. Maybe a USC uniform or UCLA or UW.

Expand full comment

At this point, he might as well make it an Alabama uniform

Expand full comment

Oh it’s on Wilcox first, Musgrave second and Angus third.

We need a power spread offense or go air raid.

You think Ott's gonna still be in Berkeley? Wow, good on ya with the positivity!!

is this plummer's last year of eligibility?

Can we end this generally held belief that Cal has a good defense this year? You don't have a good defense if you can't generate a pass rush. This will likely be the second game in a row the defense gives up more than 400 yards in the passing game to two quarterbacks who are not even close to consideration as the best in the conference. Wait until Cal faces Penix, DTR and Nix.

Expand full comment

Still hard for me to say since the offense has been a tire fire outside the 2nd half against Arizona. You can’t expect anything less then a great defense to hold up against this level of ineptitude on offense.

Expand full comment

Don’t forget, the rushing defense is also suspect.

Expand full comment

Wilcox needs to go full boise st and fire musgrave after this game.

Expand full comment

He should but he won’t. At a minimum he should reassign Musgrave and give the play calling duties to someone else.

Expand full comment

It would be hilarious if WSU was able to run out the clock so we dont get to see Millner

Expand full comment

Wildcat to ott!

Expand full comment

We are calling timeouts to preserve

Clock?

Expand full comment

Good thing we have a bye week next week so that gives Plummer time to get healthy or the offensive staff to coach and get Millner ready to play.

Expand full comment

I think Plummer is back after the bye but, man, I do not like seeing him taking those hits.

Expand full comment

The Musgrave criticism is misguided. Wilcox is responsible for the entire team… 9 points, 5 sacks allowed is on him.

True but Wilcox just got extended for some reason and isn’t getting fired. Our only hope is that Wilcox is able to find a competent OC on his 3rd try.

Expand full comment

He won't. And the problems are a lot deeper than the O coordinator. Cal's revamped offensive line looked pretty terrible today. The guy who was named the top offensive lineman in the conference last week was doing his best matador act in the series where Plummer got injured.

Expand full comment

The OC and OL coach need to be replaced and I have no faith that Wilcox will make a good hire.

Expand full comment

Just got back. Oh well, 3 TDs were scored while I was gone...

Why is Plummer and Ott still in the game?

Expand full comment

So you have 3 TD power but you can’t control who scores them?

Expand full comment

I can't control jack shit and haven't been able to since I got married and had a kid.

Absolutely falling apart out there. Right side of the O-Line has struggled all day.

Plummer knee/leg injury he's definitely done for the day

Expand full comment

Shit, I hope it's something minor. That knee was bleeding

Expand full comment

We should petition the NCAA to allow mid season transfers. That way Ott, Hunter, Sturdivandt, and Latu could leave as early as next week.

Expand full comment

I'll be pleasantly surprised if they get 2 of those 4 back....

Expand full comment

He’s bleeding and can’t walk, we’re down 3 scores, and he’s still in the game. Coaching staff is just embarrassing itself right now.

I'm done with Wilcox, officially.

What did I miss? Looks like he's got a raspberry on his knee?
