Cal Football Earns a Top-25 Vote in Coaches Poll
The Bears are still a few more wins away from an actual ranking.
The California Golden Bears are 3-0, but at this point, the jury is still out from the nation.
The AP Poll still did not post up any votes for Cal after they beat Minnesota last night. But the Coaches Poll did give Cal their first vote of the season. We salute you, patriot of the Calgorithm.
Cal has a Power 4 win over Minnesota now, but Minnesota’s two wins over Buffalo and Northwestern State aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire. Oregon State is now a dismal 0-3, losing to Fresno State and blasted by Texas Tech, and Texas Southern was rolled by Lamar at home.
It is unlikely that Cal beating San Diego State (who got blasted by Washington State, who got blasted by North Texas) will help the Bears make the leap into the top 25. So Cal just has to keep winning for the time being.
It’s safe to say the Golden Bears still have a lot to prove. But 3-0 is still 3-0!

One game at a time.
I have a slightly pudgy friend who used to brag, “I built this body one half gallon at a time!”
Slow and steady Bears, and soon you will be a heavyweight. 😉
Yeah, OK, fine. I had to listen to the game on the radio, and what I heard was 1) Cal not crumple in the 4th while in the lead, 2) Cal play a full 60 minutes of football, 3) Cal not screw up on special teams. Let’s just see how the Bears hold up over the course of this “lite” schedule, I welcome a Cal team that can win.
