Can these coaches recruit? This is super important in today’s CFB world. Bring on more coaches wherever if they can recruit more 4 star and higher players.
I dunno about that. Now that players can be freely paid, how important is recruiting ability? I suppose it makes a difference in the margins but recruiting ability probably nowhere as important as it used to be.
I remember we had a defensive tackle coach and defensive end coach in Sonny's first year at Cal. And that defensive end coach became linebacker coach in 2014 and then running backs coach in 2016.
You're right. ST coaches merely coach the logistics of the ST formations punt coverage, KO coverage, KO returns, punt returns, PAT and FG formations and special plays for 2 point tries, fake punts, onside kicks and personnel decisions for each of those. He does not teach how to kick. Those techniques are already with the player at the college level. Especially at DI and2.
Because the head coach does not coach individual positions. He might make a recommendation once a while to a position coach. His head coaching duties are way too many to mention here. But in practice sessions his main duty is to organize and supervise the entire practice session and critique afterwords.
We've lost at least 4 or 5 games the past two seasons because of special teams. We ran off our best (FRESHMAN) kicker after 2023, the guy who replaced him regressed horribly. We lost our starting long snapper this year, our very good punter graduated. We brought in backups from lower level schools. What is the plan here...
Yeah, this argument that Longshore regularly works with the kickers doesn’t hold water, because our placekicking game seemingly went to shit around the time he arrived—followed by him chasing off to uclol the one kid who had any accuracy.

You still have to be able to recruit n the portal, right?

let's get a left offensive line coach and a right offensive line coach

2 DB coaches with the same name? "What can Brown do for Blue?"
Unpopular opinion, but I think So'oto has been solid as ST coach. Our return game and coverage units have been good the last two years.
I don't think a ST coordinator teaches place kickers anyway.

I don’t understand either. Agree with the special teams coach…
Why TF do we need 2 DB coaches when Wilcox played the damn position?
Idiotic.

I've always wondered this too.
Ok, DB coaches are not like potato chips. It is possible to stop at just one.
Has any thought been given to having a Special Teams Coach instead?
My thoughts exactly. Have one solid DB coach and get a solid ST coach. Seems like basic executive management.
